The Global Markets & Technologies (GM&T) World Business Unit delivers technological solutions (molecules, equipment and services) to support the new markets of energy transition, maritime logistics and scientific exploration, in order to accelerate Air Liquide sustainable growth.
To support the energy transition, GM&T brings environmentally friendly solutions to the clean energy market with hydrogen energy and Bio-Natural Gas for vehicles, refrigerated transport using nitrogen, but also the treatment and injection of Biogas into the energy grid as a local power source.
The Chemical Process Engineering Manager is accountable for the effectiveness of process control for the fiber and membrane manufacturing processes in the Newport facility.
The position leads a team of Senior engineers, Process Engineers, and Engineering Specialists in analyzing process and product performance, urgently solving problems with output variation, identifying key improvement opportunities, developing action plans, and executing improvement in support of achieving the organization’s objectives in quality, productivity, delivery, and cost.
Responsibilities
Leadership :
- Lead and manage a team of Senior Engineers, Process Engineers, and Engineering Specialists, providing guidance, support, and mentorship to drive exceptional performance and results.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, inclusion, and accountability, promoting teamwork and effective communication across all levels of the organization.
- Build and develop the engineering team through the selection, recruitment and development of extraordinary engineering talent, and the development of core technical skills and knowledge to support future growth.
Technology Leader :
- Own, optimize, and manage process control for the end-to-end manufacturing processes.
- Provide the tools required to monitor and analyze process performance, ideally in real-time.
- Use data tools to identify signals that trigger action, to analyze trends, and to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Apply statistical tools and methodologies to optimize and lock process conditions.
- Own the relevant work instructions, ensuring accuracy, quality, and ease of use.
- Develop and own reaction guides for output variation and for alarm response.
- Scientifically control changes, proving the impact of changes with a statistical analysis of data.
- Provide technical expertise for Management of Change (MOC), including approval of MOC’s as the Technical functional reviewer.
- Identify and prioritize projects and initiatives targeted at reducing scrap, improving product quality, reducing manufacturing cycle time, and improving process efficiency.
- Lead or participate in Project and Program Reviews.
- Participate in technical Root Cause Analysis (RCA’s) for product scrap events and process incidents. Ensure learnings are documented and communicated to the organization to prevent future occurrences.
- Champion the use of formal problem-solving tools on the manufacturing floor and throughout the business.
- In conjunction with ATS, launch new products.
- Interface and maintain relationships with the Operations, Maintenance, HSE, ATS, and R&D functions.
Requirements
- BS in Chemical Engineering.
- 10-15 years of process manufacturing or related experience.
- 5 years of Leadership experience.
- Superior Oral and Written skills.
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
- Knowledge of process safety as it applies to chemical manufacturing processes.
- Proven track record of delivering on commitments.
- Proven ability to lead change, personally adaptable, and able to perform well under pressure and constantly changing priorities.
- Development and use of metrics for performance management.
- US Citizen.
Preferred
- MS in Chemical Engineering.
- 5 years experience working in a Chemical Manufacturing Process.
- Process Safety Management (High Hazard Process) experience.
- Six-sigma Green Belt or Black Belt.
- Knowledge of SPC methodologies.
- Experience using statistical analysis software (JMP, Minitab, MATLAB, etc).
- Skilled in Kepner-Tregoe problem solving analysis.
Salary Information
Salary range for this position in Newport, DE - $130k - $145k with an additional annual target incentive of 14% based on performance.
