Job Description and Qualifications
Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. (NYSE:APD), a Fortune 500 manufacturer of industrial gases, has an IMMEDIATE opening for an experienced Operations Specialist.
The PHG Operations Specialist will provide technical support and leadership to the Prism Hydrogen Generators (PHG) plants in the Americas and will report to the PHG Operations Manager. The position may require up to 40-50% travel to our field locations and will need to be available 24/7 to respond to plant issues.
The incumbent will provide the first line of operations support for the PHG plants in the Americas. The support will include assistance with planned and unplanned shutdowns and startups, troubleshooting plant upsets, identifying causes of undesired operation and planning and executing plant maintenance. The incumbent will also assist the Site Supervisors with their administrative responsibilities, including Management of Change (MOC), Basic Safety Process (BSP), plant compliance activities, and various plant improvement initiatives. Additionally, the Specialist will play an active role during the startup and handover of new PHG assets.
The incumbent will collaborate with the local operations teams, PHG operations support resources, operations line management, the asset managers and our customers to drive safe, reliable, and cost-effective operation of the PHG units.
The successful candidate will have experience with operation and/or maintenance of industrial gas processes, preferably including Steam Methane Reformer(s). The candidate will have a consistent track record as a safety leader. S/he will possess a strong Operational Discipline mindset. S/he will drive continuous improvement of the plants by helping to identify Root Causes of underperformance and implementing effective fixes.

Key responsibilities include:
- Actively champion safe work practices and be a safety leader in the field.
- Serve as the first line of operations support for the PHG plants.
- Drive for the highest level of reliability by identifying and eliminating causes of interrupted operation.
- Promote an atmosphere of teamwork by demonstrating a positive attitude, open communication, active listening, and timely problem resolutions.
- Possible on-site plant coverage for vacations, unforeseen circumstances, fatigue breaks, etc.
- Work with the Maintenance Manager to scope and execute planned and unplanned maintenance activities.
- Mentor and train new and junior Site Supervisors.
- Support start up and handover of new plants.
Candidates will be evaluated on the following:
- Track record of success in EH&S and Quality.
- Strong Operational Discipline mindset with a drive to eliminate causes of sub-standard performance.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced operational environment.
- Strong communicator capable of collaborating with various stakeholders within the organization.
- Strong troubleshooter experienced with industrial gas processes and equipment.
- Willingness to travel and support remote locations as called upon. (Potential for 40-50% of time away from home location).
- Ability to support plants outside of normal working hours through upsets and unplanned shutdowns.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of High school diploma or equivalent
- 5 years of relevant operations and/or maintenance experience. Experience with operation and/or maintenance of Hydrogen plants is preferred.
- A degree in engineering or a technical field is a plus but not required. Applicable experience will be considered in lieu of a formal degree.
