Job Title: Telecommunications Technician I
Reports to: Program Manager / Site Manager
FLSA: Full Time Hourly Non-Exempt
Primary Work Location: Orlando, FL

POSITION OVERVIEW
The Telecommunications Technician I will perform equipment installation, cable installation and maintenance, initially under the close supervision of an experienced technician. As experience and knowledge is gained, incumbents are expected to progress to more complex assignments and require less supervision. Incumbents assist journey-level technicians and learn to install, modify and repair telecommunications network systems and equipment.
Responsible for pre-wiring, installing, programming, and maintenance of products and services for structures under construction, prior to and after placement of walls/ceilings as well as existing structures for Information Security (IT), Audio-Visual (A/V), Security, Telephones, Cable Television, CCTV, Intercom Systems, Control Panels, Speakers, Antennas, Security Control Boxes/Panels, Keypads, Low Voltage Lighting, Voice Activated Systems, and other related systems and technologies.
Travel will be required CONUS to Ft Carson, Ft Stewart, and other locations as required by the Contract.

RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES
  • De-install old cable plant, racks, cable tray, conduit, metal ductway, equipment.
  • Install, move, and modify IT and A/V equipment, according to job order specifications, standards, and procedures.
  • Install electrical and mechanical control mechanisms. equipment, structured wiring, fire, intrusion alarm, and intercom systems.
  • Develop / Conduct training and training materials to ensure the customer is properly trained in the use of the system.
  • Terminate various low voltage wiring including RG-6, RG-59, CAT-5, CAT-6, Fiber Optics, and speaker wire. Use wire troubleshooting tools such as tracer/toner and continuity testers.
  • Read blueprints and perform installations accordingly. Read product material for product knowledge advancement.
  • Install and test audio equipment accessories including speakers, amps, pre-amps, receivers, etc. Properly mount (secure, level, centered) various equipment including plasma TV's, projectors, volume controls, in-wall speakers, etc.
  • Calibrate audio levels using sound level meters.
  • Connect and troubleshoot high-end multi-zone audio/video distribution systems. Configure and program touch screen-based control systems.
  • Systematically test and certify all fabricated cables, using industry standards.
  • Install and operate targets in pits, buildings, and bunkers. Be prepared to fabricate target frames using power tools by fitting, gluing, nailing, bolting, and screwing sections according to drawings and specifications.
  • Repair target lifters that are no longer covered under warranty.
  • Setup power tool saws, drill presses, etc. for various cutting, shaping, and drilling.
  • Measure and cut material to size, shape and dimension required.
  • Fit and nail or glue pieces into place according to drawings and specifications provided by unit and/or supervisor.
  • Select materials required and transport them to worksite or shop.
  • Install batteries, hostile fire simulators, and other types of simulator devices in the vicinity of target arrays, i.e. burn-barrels, Battlefield Effects Simulator (BES), trip flares, artillery fire simulators, HC smoke grenades, smoke pots, and simulated Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs)/booby traps.
  • Install and operate targets on 4G LTE or Wi-Fi network.
  • Perform welding functions as necessary.
  • Cut brush, tree limbs, trees, and grass to maintain the work area.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on target lifters, power tools, and equipment.
  • Operate Global Positioning System (GPS), Night Optical Devices (NOD) when necessary, and radio communication systems.
  • Performs operator maintenance on company provided vehicles.
  • Safeguard all assigned equipment issued by AITC, Prime, or US Government against loss, theft, and damage.
  • May be assigned task to support military Rotational Training Unit s MILES install / de-install and instrumentation.
  • Ensure safety procedures are adhered to by all personnel.
  • Maintains rapport with customers by examining complaints; identifying solutions; suggesting improved methods and techniques; recommending system improvements.
  • Keeps personal equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs.
  • Documents service and installation actions by completing forms, reports, logs, and records.
  • Maintains customer confidence by keeping service information confidential.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications, pursuing, and completing industry / vendors certifications.
  • Provides field reporting updates to Program Manager as necessary.
  • Requires working knowledge of Telecom Systems, TCP/IP Networks, and proper installation techniques per BICSI/industry standards.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
  • Travel is required (Up to 60%) to CONUS locations.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • 2-3 years' experience.
  • Experience in Copper Systems installation (minimum of 1 year)
  • Experience in Cable Infrastructure installation (minimum of 1 year)
  • Experience in Grounding and Bonding (minimum of 1 year)
  • Knowledge of how to solder and crimp connections.
  • Demonstrate ability in international wiring standard and be capable of terminating varied cabling, installing electronic switches, and related equipment installation or modification.
  • Must be able to obtain/maintain a valid driver's license and On-Post driving privileges.
  • Must be able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • Must be able to mimic (wearing the same uniform and safety equipment as) the firing unit to blend in and allow for a sterile battlefield environment.
  • Must be a High School Graduate or have a GED.
PREFERRED SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE
  • Experience with Digital Range training.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills, attention to detail, strong organizational skills, computer proficiency, and the ability to work under strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Telecommunications or Electronic Technician certification.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel).
  • Department of Defense Secret Clearance is desired.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Stand for long periods of time.
  • Must have the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds without assistance.
  • Bend, squat, climb, and reach.
  • Maintain real-life situational positioning, i.e., low crawl, run, or lie in the prone position.
  • Repetitive motion. Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
  • The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing: viewing a computer monitor; extensive reading.
  • May be exposed to extreme weather conditions - duties may be performed in all types of terrain and weather.
