Summary
Under general supervision, ensures the health, safety, and welfare of those using the Ak-Chin Indian Community Parks and Recreation swimming pool facilities by providing supervision and instruction to various age groups in swimming activities, and preventing and responding to emergencies. This is a seasonal part-time position and requires working different shifts (evenings, weekends, and holidays).
Minimum Qualifications
Swimming proficiency and comfort in all types of water conditions. Must possess an American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certification, American Red Cross CPR and First Aid Certification; OR pass certification training when scheduled by the department as a condition of employment. Must be 16 years of age or older.
Physical Requirement: Must have the ability to lift dead weight usually exceeding 50 pounds. Lift arms above shoulder level. Work in chemically treated swimming pool and in direct sunlight for long periods of time.
Examples of Duties
- Maintains constant surveillance of patrons in the facility to ensure they adhere to swimming pool rules and to ensure the prevention of accidents; acts immediately and appropriately to secure safety of patrons in the event of emergency.
- Provides emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services.
- Presents professional appearance and attitude at all times, and maintains a high standard of customer service.
- Performs various maintenance duties as directed to maintain a clean and safe facility.
- Prepares and maintains appropriate activity reports.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

- Knowledge of CPR and emergency medical procedures.
