Overview
Location: NBHC Gulfport
Duty Hours: The healthcare worker (HCW) shall normally provide services for 80 hours per two-week period. Services shall be required for a period of 8.5 to 9 hours, including an uncompensated .5 hour or 1 hour lunch break, depending on shift length, between the hours of 0600 and 1800, Monday through Friday. In no instance will the HCW be required to provide less than or in excess of eighty (80) hours per two (2) week pay period.

Responsibilities
- General Dentist. Performs a full range of professional dental tasks including treatment of commonly encountered dental diseases or dental health problems requiring standard corrective, restorative or preventive measures such as single and multiple teeth extractions, restoration of simple and compound cavities with standard and prescribed material, taking mouth impressions for crowns, jackets, dentures and bridges and fitting and inserting the finished appliances. Ensures correct patient identification through the use of at least two unique patient identifiers and perform site verification, as required. Enters workload production data into reporting system.
- Routine workload is scheduled by the treatment facility. Primary workload is a result of appointments generated by patient activity through the Comprehensive General Dentistry Department or scheduled through the DTF/MTF.
- Have full responsibility for diagnostic examinations and development of comprehensive treatment plans when indicated, delivery of treatment within the personnel, equipment, and supply capabilities of the facility.
- The HCW has full responsibility for the quality and timeliness of preparation of dental records and reports for procedures performed and care provided. Patients frequently have overlapping, multiple symptoms and often require multidiscipline long-term treatment.
- The HCW shall refer patients to staff specialists for consultative opinions and continuation of care and shall see the patients of other staff health care providers for consultation and treatment.
- The HCW shall perform a full range of clinical dentistry procedures, within the scope of clinical privileges granted by the Commanding Officer in accordance with DHA PM credentialing instruction (and subsequent revisions), on-site using government furnished facilities, supplies, and equipment. Caseload occurs as a result of either scheduled or unscheduled requirements for care.
- The HCW shall provide comprehensive dental examination, consultation, and treatment planning including the use of radiographs, photographs, diagnostic tests, impressions, jaw relation records, and diagnostic casts.
- As a member of a professionally diverse team, the HCW contributes in a positive manner to team building and morale.
- Prescribe and dispense medications as delineated by the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee.
Qualifications
- Degree/Education: Doctor of Medical in Dentistry (DMD) or Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS). Graduate from an accredited dental school approved by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) of the American Dental Association (ADA). Specialty Dentist must be a graduate of a dental specialty training program that is accredited by the CODA of the ADA or an accepted equivalent program.
- Certifications in addition to Basic Life Support: Board eligible or board certified as required in the TO.
- Experience: As required to meet clinical competency requirements specified in the Service-specific credentialing instructions. Shall have been employed for at least one (1) year on a full-time basis in the practice of dentistry, or be a recent (I-year) graduate of an accredited, post-graduate dentistry training program. Dental specialists shall have a certificate of training in their specialty area from an ADA accredited residency training program.
- Board Certification: Board eligible or board certified as required in the TO.
- Licensure/Registration: Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice as a dentist.
