Purpose/Summary
With supervision, the EPB Mechanical Engineer will design and develop brake related electro-mechanical components through all development phases from concept to ready-for-production vehicle application. Experience in the design/development of brake products and/or mechanisms/mechanical assemblies in the Automotive Industry are preferred.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
- Prepare solid models and detail drawings for existing concept designs. SolidWorks knowledge preferred.
- Develop Technical (Performance) Specifications for brake caliper and electromechanical parking brake components
- Perform component analysis and/or simulation to predict performance and durability as compared to the technical specification; analysis includes static and dynamic, stress and deflection, fatigue life prediction
- Work with CAE engineers to confirm component analysis
- Provide component performance parameters to controls engineers who develop theoretical models of the assembly concept
- Check drawings and prepare associated release documents
- Work with existing or identify new suppliers to procure prototypes for testing
- Prepare presentation materials related to design development and performance status for management review
- Develop countermeasures to meet performance specifications as necessary
Education and/or Experience
BSME from a four-year college or university or higher degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have at least 1 to 3 years’ experience in the design of mechanical devices in the automotive industry.

- Understand and apply advanced mathematical and physics concepts to support product development

Supervisory Responsibilities
This position does not have direct supervisory responsibility.
Physical Demands/Environment
This position requires the following physical abilities: to sit; to use hands, to reach with hands and arms, to stand, to talk, to hear and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. In addition, the specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
The work environment is mostly sedentary; however, there is occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts and vibration and to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
