SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for supervision and monitoring of the activities of the Grounds Department by supervision of work orders and personnel assigned to the Grounds Department. Responsible for scheduling and assignment of work duties and projects related to grounds maintenance for all district facilities and locations. The position assists with obtaining quotes for materials and supplies, inventory management and coordination with supply vendors. In addition, the position is responsible for oversight of all contracted service providers and ensuring the services are delivered according to agree upon standards, pricing, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:
  • Valid State of Ohio Driver’s Licensue, Class A CDL (or obtain within 120 days);
  • Diploma from an accredited high school or trade school; or a GED;
  • Minimum of three years’ experience at a skilled level in ground maintenance.
  • Commercial Pesticide Applicators license with a category 6a, 6c, 8 and 10a endorsement (or obtain within 120 days)
  • Ability to supervise, establish, and maintain satisfactory work relationships with others
  • Ability to operate equipment and other machinery (bobcat, backhoe, tractor, cement and fence equipment, mowers, etc.)
  • Must be willing to work off-hours and weekends as required;
  • Must be computer literate and familiar with Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word etc.), Google Applications.

Preferred:
  • Prior experience and working knowledge of Munis, Aesop and FMX Work Order Systems
  • Able to read and interpret blueprints

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
  • Supervise assigned grounds staff.
  • Schedule and direct work orders and projects related all grounds maintenance and upkeep.
  • Supervise and monitor all contracted service vendors and providers.
  • Assists with selection and onboarding of departmental personnel as required.
  • Inventory management and control, order supplies and equipment as necessary
  • Complete routine inspections of school grounds and related facilities
  • Develop and implement training for staff
  • Maintain safety records, maintenance records, and other reporting as required Develop and implement a program of preventive maintenance for equipment
  • Provide safety training for assigned staff and ensure that staff are following established policies and procedures related to employee safety and required personal protective equipment
  • Ensure that athletic fields, playground and other recreational equipment are safe and operational
  • Review and approve payroll processing information
  • Prepare specifications and submit cost estimates for proposed projects
  • Other duties as assigned

GENERAL EXPECTATIONS:
Responsible to work cooperatively and effectively with members of the public, other employees, related public agency staff, community businesses and service providers; responsible for accurate and timely record keeping and reports as required; may be responsible to drive a motor vehicle with a valid Ohio operator’s license as required by the position; and may be required to travel, both within the school district and outside of the school district. Responsible to attend meetings, in-services and training programs as related to the position held.

Often must visit school buildings and emergency sites, which can on occasion be loud. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus. Must be able to use a computer. Must have mobility to travel to school sites and respond to emergencies.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze and interpret state and federal laws, regulations and policies. Ability to verbally articulate concise instructions to employees at all levels, directly or by phone. Ability to resolve concerns with employees. Ability to interpret negotiated contract and engage in meaningful discussions to avoid conflict. Ability to address complaints or concerns from employees, the public and administrative staff.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to assist in the preparation, supervision and monitoring of the annual departmental budget. Basic understanding of mathematics, accounting, billing and invoicing procedures. Ability to gather, calculate and analyze data for purposes of vacation entitlements, overtime usage.

REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to identify and define problems, collects data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to utilize evaluation data to resolve personnel problems, safety concerns, evaluations and other issues concerning Board Policies and MOT Agreement language with costs and management rights.
