POSITION TITLE: Teacher, Physical Education

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Must hold an Alabama Teaching Certificate with an endorsement in Health, Physical Education, and Recreation.
- Endorsement and/or hours in Adaptive Physical Education is preferred. If a current endorsement is not held, endorsement must be obtained within the first thirty (30) months of employment.
- Experience working with children with disabilities in education or rehabilitation settings is preferred.
- Certification by the American Red Cross in Aquatics required with Senior Life Saving minimum within the first twelve (12) months of employment. Candidates not holding this requirement must note that no activities occurring in or around the pool area can be conducted without an employee currently holding this certification present.
- Must have valid Alabama Driver’s License and obtain a CDL/Bus Driver’s License within the first twenty-four (24) months of employment. Must maintain yearly certification for Alabama School Bus Driver’s License.
- Must be able to be insured by the AIDB insurance carrier.
- A sign language proficiency level of INTERMEDIATE PLUS according to the AIDB Evaluation System is preferred. SURVIVAL PLUS must be obtained within the first twelve (12) months of employment and INTERMEDIATE PLUS must be obtained within the first thirty-six (36) months of employment.
- Upon offer of employment, the applicant must submit to a fingerprint background check at an agency designated and paid by AIDB."
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conducts initial assessment of all students assigned and utilizes assessment information to develop appropriate goals and objectives for instruction.
- Development of IEP for each student and implements the program, planning activities and tasks to carry out the plan.
- Develops pleasant, consistent environments for learning.
- Writes lesson plans for each student; maintains documentation of progress and submits lesson plans according to schedule.
- Prepares appropriate materials needed to implement the IEP and lesson plans.
- Regularly evaluate the child's progress and alter the child’s plan accordingly.
- Sets and maintains appropriate standards for classroom behavior.
- Disciplines students according to established policies and procedures.
- Responsible for supervision and effective utilization of teacher aides as assigned.
- Communicates with parents regularly and as needed.
- Recommends, accompanies, and provides information to all clinics and other services.
- Attends all meetings called by the President, Principal, or Department Director.
- Is punctual to all school meetings, functions, conferences, clinics, etc.
- Submits timely progress reports which are accurate and appropriate.
- Accepts responsibilities and assignments such as lunch duty, committees, etc.
- Participates in staffings of students.
- Informs nurse of student’s medical needs and assist in meeting medical or personal needs of students.
- Assists children in care and maintenance of eye glasses, hearing aids, wheelchairs, braces, etc.
- Initiates, plans and participates in department committees.
- Participates or attends workshops/inservices.
- Attends to the needs of children as required.
- Implements approved behavior management programs.
- Maintains accurate and current documentation.
- Monitors students when traveling on campus.
- Maintains clean P.E. uniforms, linen, etc.
- Coach a minimum of two sports. May include, but not limited to: basketball, volleyball, swimming, bowling, athletics, gymnastics, roller skating, etc.
- Assist in the Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind’s Local Special Olympic Games.
- Protects confidentiality of student information.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

SALARY: $44,994 - $59,925 Scale I1 Rank 2T (BS – Class B)
$52,739 - $68,827 Scale I1 Rank 1T (MS - Class A)
$56,145 - $72,734 Scale I1 Rank AA (AA)

This is an exempt position, and is not subject to overtime or compensatory provisions of the Fair Labor Standards
