PRINCIPAL

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:

  • Valid Alabama Administrator’s Certificate
  • Master’s Degree in Educational Administration/Instructional Leadership

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Working knowledge of curriculum and instruction

  • Ability to evaluate instructional program and teaching effectiveness
  • Ability to manage budget and personnel
  • Ability to coordinate school functions
  • Ability to implement policy and procedures
  • Ability to interpret data
  • Strong organizational, communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills

Experience

Minimum three (3) years teaching experience

Prior administrative experience preferred

REPORTS TO: Superintendent

JOB GOAL: To provide administrative, supervisory, and instructional leadership necessary to maximize learning opportunities for all students and to ensure an orderly and productive environment

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Explains and implements administrative regulations and policies; Ensures compliance of local, state, and federal laws and regulations
  • Develops and institutes the public program for the school
  • Responsible for inventories of property under prescribed campus
  • Assumes responsibility for the master schedule and any special assignments
  • Manages the development and maintenance of all records and news
  • Accepts accountability for all official school correspondence and news
  • Enhances individual student education and development by supervising the counseling and guidance program
  • Participates in the development, revision, and evaluation of the curriculum
  • Provides for identification of specific needs for students and the development of programs to meet these needs
  • Evaluates and makes recommendations regarding the school’s administration and instruction
  • Implements data-driven instructional practices and programs
  • Works with teachers to constantly assess and improve student achievement results
  • Organizes guidelines for proper student conduct and maintains student discipline
  • Establishes and maintains high standards of student conduct and enforces discipline measure as necessary, according to the rights of the students
  • Endeavors to improve attendance within the framework of board policy
  • Facilitates and approves all school activities
  • Coordinates and evaluates the school’s extra-curricular programs
  • Participates in special events held to recognize student achievement, and attends school sponsored activities, functions, and athletic events
  • Maintains and directs the expenditure of the various local funds generated by student activities
  • Handles parent complaints and concerns in a timely manner
  • Communicates on a regular basis with parents
  • Arranges special conferences between parents and teachers
  • Communicates policy changes, new programs, and other revisions or modifications in the operating procedures as appropriate
  • Reports to the superintendent on the school’s activities and problems on a regular basis
  • Improves personal competence by staying informed of the changes and development in the profession, attending professional meetings, reading professional journals and other publications, and discussing problems of mutual interest with others in the field
  • Accepts the responsibility for the administration of the school entity and its safety
  • Designs and implements fire drills and any other emergency preparedness programs
  • Designates responsible personnel to assume authority and responsibility for the school in absence of the principal
  • Shares in the interviewing, selecting, and orientation of new staff; supervises all school personnel
  • Assesses and advises all staff members regarding their individual and group performances
  • Coordinates appropriate orientation and development of staff members
  • Make recommendations to superintendent on termination, suspension, or nonrenewal of employees under the principal’s supervision
  • Creates a culture of excellence, teamwork and collaboration amongst the staff, teachers, students, and families
  • Other duties as assigned

EMPLOYMENT TERMS: Salary and work year to be established by the Board of Education

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of Professional Personnel.
