Brief Description: The Director of Finance reports to the Chief Operating Officer and oversees and directs the Association's Finance and Accounting functions. They set immediate and mid-range priorities for the Finance and Accounting department in alignment with the priorities of the Executive Director to ensure cohesive support for the Association. The Director of Finance supports Alaska Geographic's leadership team and agency partners by providing day-to-day financial information on the overall financial affairs of the Association. They serve as a point of contact to the Association's Finance Committee (Board).
Essential Functions:
Accounting:
- Manage the Association’s Accounting department, supervising the timely preparation of monthly financial reports.
- Supervise Accounts Payable and ensure accurate recording, payment, and reporting of all Association liabilities and obligations.
- Supervise Accounts Receivable and ensure accurate recording, collection, and reporting.
- Manage Inventory Control and Management, including periodic cycle counts and annual inventory counts.
- Oversee the management of Association Assets, including operating and fixed assets.
- Monitor business processes, workflows, and transaction management in accordance with Association policies.
Finance:
- Establish working cash balances and recommend suitable investment options for the Association's financial resources.
- Facilitate the annual budgeting process and consult with the Executive Director on long-range financial planning.
- Monitors insurance coverage for the Association.
- Ensure timely and accurate filing of all Association government reports and tax filings.
- Coordinate with external auditors for the annual audit of financial statements.
- Maintain integrations and data migrations between the Association's Point of Sales and General Ledger systems.
- Direct the implementation and maintenance of financial applications.
- Maintain the Association’s contracts and agreements files and ensure billing and payment requests are submitted as required.
- Ensure sound financial processes regarding facilities management.
- Maintain and update record retention policy in compliance with federal and state guidelines.
Other Functions:
- Perform other duties as required by the position.
Required Experience, Licenses, Certifications, Abilities, or Knowledge:
- Knowledge of accounting and information technology, experience working with Oracle NetSuite preferred.
- Clear oral and written communication skills.
- Working knowledge of computers, including word processing and spreadsheet programs.
- Ability to prioritize and organize multiple tasks.
- Ability to operate effectively under pressure.
- Problem-solving ability.
- Discretion with confidential information.
- Valid driver’s license.
Minimum Educational Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent.
Working Conditions and Safety Hazards:
- Occasional exposure to high-pressure situations.
- Occasional overtime work is required throughout the year.
- Occasional travel required.
