POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
The Rose F. Kennedy (RFK) University Center of Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD) and Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and related Disorders (LEND programs is seeking a Program Manager. The UCEDD and LEND programs operate in affiliation with the RFK Children's Evaluation and Rehabilitation Center (CERC) of Albert Einstein College of Medicine/Montefiore Medical Center. As Program Manager this individual will coordinate LEND Family Discipline activities and serve as a Family Specialist (in DD) for UCEDD and UCEDD-related activities.
As LEND Program Manager- responsibilities will include: (1) curriculum development; (2) recruitment/mentoring/training of family trainees; and (3) networking/product development.
Training may include didactic presentations, hands-on learning, and project mentorship either independently or with other LEND faculty. Tasks pertinent to this role include: meeting weekly with LEND family trainees to implement the curriculum; supervising trainees’ individualized projects/ products; coordinating and supervising trainee engagement with the CERC’s Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics Program, and; serving on the RFK LEND Steering Committee.
UCEDD activities will include: serving as a Family Specialist for the UCEDD’s New York State Department of Health funded Children and Youth with Special Needs (CYSHCN). Tasks pertinent to this role include:
Serving as a family expert in DD on CYSHCN project programs, projects, and products, with specific tasks that include: organizing and planning educational events for families and professionals; researching and collating DD resources for CYSHCN; serving as the CYSHCN site lead for statewide Spanish language materials and program planning, and; engaging in CYSHCN collaboratives with NY State’s two other UCEDD/CYSHCN projects.
Additional UCEDD activities will include engaging in policy and advocacy work with the Family Support Committee of the Bronx DD Council; planning and participating in meetings with legislators at the local, state and federal levels to support advocacy and systems change regarding DD policy, and; additional activities under the direction of UCEDD leadership.
Scope of Responsibility
Supervise 3 Parent LEND trainees under the direction of LEND program staff, Mayra Alvarez, PhD
Participate in CYSHCN activities under the supervision of UCEDD program director, Karen Bonuck, PhD
Participate in community and policy activities under the supervision of UCEDD program director, Joanne Siegel, LCSW
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree
Personal experience as the/a primary caregiver of child, youth or adult with DDs.
Minimum three (3) years of training and/or work experiences in special education or DD settings .
Prior managerial experience required.
Skills and Competencies
Ability to direct and supervise trainees.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while managing concurrent deadlines
Must be able to demonstrate sponsored project technical expertise and mastery of the subject matter.
Must be detail-oriented with strong organizational and problem-solving skills
Must be a self-starter and capable of operating with minimal supervision
Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills and ability to work effectively with a diverse group of local and national stakeholders including Einstein, Montefiore, AUCD, and other LEND programs.
Must have sound judgment with an open and collaborative style of leadership that encourages teamwork and cooperation.
