An Associate Partner (AP) is recognized as an expert practitioner who uses their expertise to add value to the firm’s portfolio across a range of DGA ASG teams and support business development. APs work across practices, and shape and drive key client/firm operational activities. APs provide direction and guidance, and they work effectively with colleagues at all levels and across the firm to create a productive and positive work environment. APs serve as lead on numerous and varied client engagements. They serve as advisors to clients and focus on building relationships and leveraging their expertise to drive business results for the firm and our clients, ensuring both impeccable client service and value creation. 

Responsibilities 

  • Participate significantly in all aspects of client management, impact, and retention. Responsible for managing multiple client relationships, serving as the primary contact for client teams, helping to develop and implement strategy on clients, and ensures priorities are met. 
  • Manages DGA ASG client team members to produce agreed upon products. Sets clear strategy and expectations for deliverables to team members. 
  • Broadens ASG networks and expertise and raises the firm’s profile through participation with associations, think tanks, and policy advocacy platforms. Demonstrates thought leadership through writing for journals, doing media interviews and/or serving on panels as appropriate. 
  • Supports team members' professional development and works to identify additional development opportunities. 
  • Works with the practice lead to help generate new client prospects, and opportunities for growing existing client relationships. 
  • Works to cultivate, integrate, and manage advisory network members, engaging them effectively in client service and business development. 
  • Participates actively in annual practice planning and ongoing monitoring of practice/firm goals for growth and P&L.  
  • Utilizes and expands personal network of relationships to cultivate potential clients and creatively build new business.  
  • Sought out for geopolitical, regional, functional or sector/industry knowledge. 
  • Involved in client's strategic decision-making activities. Drives and shapes key client operational initiatives.  
  • Possesses broad content knowledge/expertise that adds recognized value to client activities and the firm’s overall portfolio.  
  • Grows and/or manages a significant revenue, usually as client lead to major clients. 
  • Cross-sells effectively to expand firm engagements. 

Qualifications 

  • Impeccable judgment and discretion. Manages responsibilities and competing priorities effectively to deliver timely, high-quality work with finite resources. 
  • Demonstrated 10 years of professional experience in a government affairs, diplomatic, consulting, strategic advisory, or in-house capacity (e.g., government, business, NGO/not-for-profit, or law). 
  • Recognized substantive knowledge of politics, economics, commerce and trade in key South Asian markets.  
  • Significant regional, functional or sector expertise related to India, Bangladesh, and/or Pakistan / Afghanistan that helps to drive ASG business development and meet client service goals. Experience in critical and emerging technologies and data governance is a plus. 
  • Recognized substantive knowledge in multiple sectors, which may include international relations, international law or business, government, international advocacy, or related field. 
  • Proven senior manager with experience leading large cross-cultural teams, organizations, or agencies in complex environments. 
  • Deep network spanning government, industry, civil society, and other relevant communities in Washington, D.C. and/or key South Asian markets.  
  • Existing client base is a plus. 
  • Bachelor’s degree in political science, international relations, economics, business, or related field or equivalent experience required. Advanced degree in political science, international relations, public policy, law, business, or related field or equivalent professional experience strongly preferred. 
  • ​​​​​​​A no task “too small” mentality. A willingness to do what it takes to get the job done.
