Activities Assistant
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Activities Assistant will make a positive contribution to the lives of residents, and their families, by providing opportunities for meaningful engagement and interaction. The Activities Assistant will be responsible for supporting the Activities Director in developing and implementing engagement programs geared towards meeting a variety of physical and cognitive needs with a balance of productive, leisure, self-care and rest/spiritual activities, recognizing individuality and well-being of each resident. The Activities assistant will also promote a high level of customer service and respect.
Requirements:
· Works under the supervision of the Activities Director.
· Responsible, always on time, resourceful, very accurate and detail-oriented
· Follow the daily activities schedule and carry-out the assigned planned activities and events
· Maintain an ongoing inventory of departmental supplies and equipment.
· Must be creative with activities such as arts, crafts, music, drama, educational programs
· Be aware of conditions that may interfere with the safety and well-being of residents while in activities
· Performs and directs the movement of residents to and from recreational areas
· Announces scheduled activities over the intercom at least fifteen minutes prior to the activity
· Directs volunteer activities, enlists their support and coordinates their efforts; provides training and supervision of volunteers.
· Plans and coordinates activities in the absence of the Activity Director
Responsibilities:
· Help coordinate all special events, including holiday and birthday events
· Assist the Director in decorating the building for all parties, holidays and special events.
· General housekeeping duties in activity areas and supply closets.
· Assists with preparing and distributing the monthly calendar and newsletter.
· Assists with purchasing supplies for activities as needed.
· Executes a regular exercise program to maintain strength and mobility, improve overall health.
· Provide a forum for residents to meet monthly and share their ideas, thoughts, and concerns regarding their activities
· Help create monthly activities
· Assists with planning, coordinating activities: reality orientation, current events, discussion groups, sensory stimulation, cultural activities, religious services, special entertainment, outside trips, special events, and one-to-one visits, as indicated.
· Demonstrate teamwork by prompt and regular attendance to work to ensure that quality care and services are provided to the residents we serve
· Any other duties as assigned by the Community Manager
Qualifications:
· Experience in recreation setting preferred.
· Experience in party planning and carrying out social and recreational programs.
· Must be creative and have appropriate input in creating new activities for the program.
· Performance experience is preferred, such as singing or dancing.
· Must have a high school degree or equivalent.
· Must have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written in English.
· Must have basic knowledge of a variety of activities and exhibit the ability to give instructions to others.
· Strong skills in working and communicating with people, especially residents, family members and co-workers
Demonstrates a high level of energy, enthusiasm, and creativity in working with residents
