Schedule Details: Fixed (2 options currently available: MThF e/o/w or MTW e/o/w), Weekends & Holidays required

QUALIFICATIONS: Must be a Registered Nurse in New York State with a minimum of an Associate's degree in Nursing. At least one (1) year prior experience desired with a focus in Substance Use Disorders preferred. Must possess current CPR/First Aid certification. Phlebotomy certificate desired. Familiarity with crisis interventions, working with special populations, medication assisted treatment, and trauma-informed care are essential. Knowledge and/or experience in a residential healthcare setting desired. On-call assistance and weekend availability required to meet the emergent needs of the resident population. Phlebotomy certified desired. Reliable transportation required; valid NYS driver's license preferred.

The Registered Nurse is part of an inter-disciplinary team and provides direct patient care in accordance with nursing standards under the general direction of the supervising physician. This role is responsible for completing nursing assessments, developing care plans, and implementing necessary nursing interventions in accordance with organization policy. Successful candidates will have a good understanding of principles and practices of community mental health nursing, problems and concerns as they relate to substance use, and application of current nursing procedures and techniques.

JOB DUTIES

• Adhere to NYS Office of Professions and state nurse practice act requirements and to other governing agency regulations;
• Support a compassionate environment by supporting the provision of emotional, psychological, and spiritual supports to residents, friends, and families;
• Promote residents' independence by participating in the establishment of resident care goals and teaching and counseling residents/friends/family, giving them specific care and treatment instructions to reinforce their understanding of their conditions, substance use disorders, medications, and self-care skills;
• Administer nursing care and distribution of medications to residents in the program;
• Monitor overall physical condition of residents to promote a high quality of care;
• Follow medication administration, storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations;
• Maintain medical and medication records;
• Adhere to program standards and supervising physician's orders;
• Conduct phlebotomy when ordered by a physician or APP;
• Provide input around admission decisions;
• Prepare written reports on nursing activities;
• Collaborate with other care professionals to develop resident-directed Recovery Plans, address resident health care needs, and monitor/evaluate/record residents' progress with respect to treatment and recovery goals;
• Ensure that all areas are maintained appropriately for the health and safety of residents, staff, and other visitors;
• Ensure operation of medical and administrative equipment by verifying emergency equipment availability, completing preventative maintenance requirements, following manufacturer's instructions, troubleshooting malfunctions, requesting repairs, maintaining equipment inventories, and evaluating new equipment and techniques;
• Maintain perpetual inventory of all medical supplies, sharps, medications, and controlled substances;
• Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings, as needed, to ensure consistent, accurate flow of information, agency policies and safety procedures, and provide relevant perspective and recommendations as appropriate;
• Participate with staff and, as necessary, other services and agencies to assure the development, management and implementation of comprehensive services for each resident, reflecting both substance use issues and other habilitation or rehabilitation needs;
• Maintain a cooperative relationship among health care teams by communicating information, responding to requests, and participating in team problem-solving methods;
• Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, and participating in professional societies;
• Assist with contraband checks, as necessary;
• Maintain resident/patient confidence and protect operations by monitoring confidential information processing;
• Provide general oversight of LPNs in the absence of the Nursing Supervisor;
• Other duties as assigned.

Compensation: Competitive; $30-40/hr commensurate with experience;
