Job Overview
The Full Time Support Aide is responsible to maintain a safe predictable and therapeutic living environment for children in care on campus by supporting the children and staff so that programming takes place with minimal disruption. With the direction and support of the school administration and Captain of Support, Support Aide provides close supervision, instruction, counseling, and support to all of the children during program activities. They will assist students with transitions; intervene when there are conflicts between students, and respond to crisis when needed. The Captain of Support will assign the Support Aide to their appropriate posts in accordance to the needs of the school and campus. The Support Aide will develop a positive appropriate relationship with the students and the classroom staff in proximity to their assignment as designed by the Captain of Support to offer a unified therapeutic services and environment. They will work as part of a multidisciplinary team that includes teachers, certified teaching assistants, support staff, Psychologists, Social Workers and other professionals.
Essential Duties
Key duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Responds to crisis in a timely manner.
- Is flexible, supportive, and accommodating in crisis or unplanned situations.
- Knows and complies with agency standards regarding Therapeutic Crisis Intervention and restraint.
- Provides children with appropriate supervision at all times.
- Adheres to school programming plan and routines.
- Remains positively engaged with children at all times, throughout the workday.
- Actively participates in team discussions and cooperates to follow through on safety plans, BIPS etc.
- Completes all paperwork requirements clearly, accurately and in a timely fashion.
- Actively participates in training opportunities and supervisory discussions.
- Attends meetings and trainings as required.
- Honors Sanctuary Commitments and uses Sanctuary Tools in all day to day activities.
- Avoids power struggles with children and provides continuous support and encouragement.
- Completes critical incident reports as appropriate.
- Completes facility work requests as necessary.
- Treats all children, families and co-workers with respect & courtesy.
- Supports overall strategic plan of the organization.
Essential Qualifications
Key qualifications include:
- Minimum of High School Diploma with 5 years of related experience or an Associate degree or equivalent
- Minimum one year experience with emotionally troubled children
- Good Oral and Written Communication Skills.
- High Emotional Intelligence
- Ability to self-regulate
- Ability to adhere to our organization's core values and commitments
- Ability to access and utilize ADP app on smartphone or other device for access to agency programs
Physical/Travel Requirements
- Must possess ability to sit, stand, walk, run, climb stairs, and lifts weights of up to 30lbs.
- Have physical capacity to restrain or assist in the restraint of a child.
