Position Summary 

Alethea Group is seeking an analyst to join their growing team. In this role you will undertake daily OSINT investigations into social media manipulation and online threats targeting clients, support client briefings and training, and help drive and develop new analytic products. You will need to be able to meet a dynamic set of customer needs and think creatively distilling large sets of social media data and other relevant datasets into actionable analysis to be used by a variety of stakeholders. As part of being a teammate at a startup, Analysts will also help identify ways to improve investigative and operational processes and methodologies. This is a threat analyst position, not a policy position. 

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide daily insights into social media conversations and investigate instances of manipulation and disinformation for a variety of clients.
  • Conduct targeted research and investigations to support the development of a variety of analytic products.
  • Identify new trends in social media manipulation and disinformation.
  • Manage and prioritize multiple investigative projects and other tasks under guidance from Senior and Principal Analysts.
  • Participate in client meetings and briefing findings succinctly.
  • Support disinformation training programs led by Senior and Principal Analysts. 
  • Contribute to public-facing research in order to share new trends with the broader research community and American public

About You:

  • Minimum of two years of relevant work experience (i.e. complex research, analysis, etc.).
  • Willingness to become a subject matter expert in esoteric research areas.
  • Experience in qualitative and quantitative research.
  • Demonstration of a well-developed understanding, either through research, study, or experience, of one of the following areas: social media research, government and politics (including international politics), disinformation, information operations, violent extremism, quantitative analysis, computer science, or cybersecurity. 
  • Experience briefing decision makers verbally and in writing on complex and disparate findings.

Preferred Skills (Not required):

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a related discipline (e.g. social science, computer science, intelligence studies, etc.).
  • Foreign language skills. 
  • Prior work experience analyzing social media data.
  • Familiarity with the disinformation space  (e.g. through academic research/training or prior work experience).

Compensation and Benefits 

  • Salary and stock options are negotiated based on experience. 
  • Healthcare at the gold-tier level, dental, and vision is fully funded by the employer. 50% of dependent coverage is provided by the employer.
  • Unlimited vacation and sick leave, including office closure between Christmas and New Years, and extended holidays at Thanksgiving and the 4th of July.
  • Employer sponsored 401k with a 3.5% match.
  • Remote-first role, with the ability to work anywhere in the United States. Headquarters is located in Washington, D.C.

Our office is remote during the COVID-19 pandemic, and will reopen once public health officials have determined it is safe to do so. At that time, staff will have the option to work from our Washington, D.C. office.
