The Opportunity:

AliveCor, the creator of the smartphone ECG, seeks a Senior Hardware Engineer to join an exciting start-up that is changing the face of mobile health. As a leading contributor and stakeholder, you will work with cross-disciplinary engineering teams to design cutting edge medical devices while bringing a focus on delivering highly reliable, low power, and secure hardware systems. We require this position to be very hands-on and the right candidate should have the ability to collaborate with internal and external design and manufacturing partners for requirements development, and risk management. At AliveCor, you will have the opportunity to design custom industry leading hardware solutions that empower our customers to leverage our new medical devices to monitor and diagnose dangerous health conditions. This role is on-site in Mountain View

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Develop solutions for complex problems involving biosensors and power management/efficiency for small form factor solutions
  • Design, test, and integrate RF electronics such as BLE, WiFi, and LTE connected devices
  • Lead schematic development, BOM development, layout, documentation, and prototyping
  • Drive product requirements and risk management from concept to launch
  • Work closely with the HW team, AI team, App developers and external design partners
  • Work closely with Engineering, Regulatory, Operations, Quality and Data Science
  • Design and improve production test fixtures
  • Conduct PCBA bring up and debugging of prototype designs
  • Investigate, evaluate, and prototype innovative solutions
  • Analog / Digital design and testing of cutting-edge medical devices
  • Wireless systems evaluation, tuning, ISO 13485 or similar medical device manufacturing, and medical device regulatory compliance testing to 60601.
  • Collect product information, conduct risk assessments, investigate product or process issues
  • Design and execute system verification tests, diagnose and root cause hardware and system failures
  • Aid FW Team in firmware design and driver design, register settings, and board bring-up
  • Work with a contract manufacturer in prototype phase all the way through to high volume production
  • Rapid learning and implementation

 

 

Qualifications and Skills:

  • 5 years of electronic product development experience with a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or related field
  • Experience in RF design, including antenna design preferred but not mandatory, PCBA layout, impedance tuning, and regulatory testing for BLE, WiFi, and LTE radios
  • Experience with board design using Altium
  • Experience with analog front ends (AFE) and related register settings/tuning, analog electronics circuit design, low power device design, opto-electronics (PPG) design
  • Excellent lab skills (test & measurement equipment, soldering, rework, assembly, developing test automation)
  • Experience with ARM based microcontrollers and common peripherals - flashing, communications, I/O, etc.
  • Experience with packaging componentry into small spaces, sensors, microelectronics, working with mechanical engineers to create whole system solutions
  • Experience with simulation tools for electronics, RF design, or power modeling
  • Well-rounded and can help out where needed as part of a small Team, ME/EE integration using STEP files in Altium, spacing and tolerancing. Ability to manage small projects: organized, independent, and results oriented
  • Superb analytical and diagnostic skills, excellent communication skills, strong team ethic, and attention to detail

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, 7 years of medical industry experience
  • Experience with embedded firmware development
  • Experience with scripting languages like Python
  • Extensive experience shipping devices from design to launch
  • Experience designing products using flexible circuits and biosensors
  • Experience with mechanical design in 3D CAD software/SolidWorks a plus
  • Experience with materials/manufacturing processes a plus
