What are the responsibilities and job description for the Shop Manager position at Alkar Rapidpak?
The Manufacturing Manager is responsible for efficient execution of all production activities within their assigned areas. Will provide leadership to the Production Foremen and Leads, monitor the shop floor processes, provide technical direction and strive to create employee empowerment which results in minimum downtime and maximum productivity.
This position reports to the Plant Manager and will have regular internal contact with other members of the leadership team, quality, manufacturing engineering, product engineering, maintenance, and finance functions.
Responsibilities:
- Plan, organize, direct and run optimum day-to-day operations in your given area to exceed our customers’ expectations.
- Promote a safe culture, actively participant in and support company's safety committee and monitor/enforce safe operational practices.
- Understand lean manufacturing techniques and how to apply them. Establish and report KPI’s (key performance indicators) and use this data to continuously improve overall plant performance.
- Increase production, assess capacity, and flexibility while minimizing unnecessary costs and maintaining current quality standards.
- Allocate resources effectively and fully utilize assets to produce optimal results.
- Implement strategies in alignment with strategic initiatives and provide a clear sense of direction and focus.
- Share a trusting relationship with the workgroup and recruit, manage and develop plant staff. Handle production personnel and discipline issues with the appropriate supervisor and provide adequate written documentation of all action taken.
- Understand union contract and how it is applied in specific situations
- Ability to analyze complex issues, develop and implement clear action plans to resolve issues.
- Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently across the organization, including information management of issues and project statuses / changes.
Qualifications:
- Strong Leadership and Team Building Skills.
- BS in Business Management, Engineering or a technical discipline.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in manufacturing with at least three in a leadership position.
- Be knowledgeable of safety, quality, productivity, demand creation, and production and inventory control.
- Ability to create accountability and to lead by example.
- Strong team building, problem-solving, decision-making and people management skills.

- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.
- The employee frequently is required to stand; walk, sit, bending, twisting, and stooping.
