We are looking for an experienced Medical Accounts Receivable Specialist to join a well known medical office in Columbia, SC! The Accounts Receivable Specialist resolves outstanding, unpaid, unprocessed, and denied claims submitted to third-party payers on behalf of providers, to ensure compensation is received fully, and in a timely manner.
Job Duties:
1. Reviews, researches and resolves insurance claims, unprocessed third-party claims, denials, underpayments and overpayments.
2. Verifies accuracy of billing data and corrects errors; resubmits clean claims to payers electronically or via paper claim.
3. Works, monitors and manages his/her respective workbaskets including, but not limited to, denials, 60 Day, 90 Day, and 120 Day aging on assigned insurance carrier(s) to get claims paid in a timely manner.
4. Works incoming mail and EOBs (Explanation of Benefits) from the insurance carriers and processes claims related correspondence to resolve issues.
5. Works EDI transactions, ERA files and rejection reports.
6. Contacts payers via phone to help expedite the resolution of claims and payments.
7. Accesses web-based applications and internet for claim status and eligibility of services.
8. Identifies and resolves patient billing complaints and inquires. Assists the overflow customer service line when volume of incoming calls warrants assistance.
9. Complies with Patient Accounting quality and productivity standards.
10. Maintains strictest confidentiality; adheres to all HIPAA guidelines/regulations.
11. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor
Minimum Qualifications:
1. High School diploma or equivalent required
2. Three (3) years medical billing experience
3. Strong knowledge of Medicare claims processing regulations and other payer specific guidelines
4. Strong written and verbal communication skills
5. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships and the ability to work in teams
6. Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Excel, and Outlook
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Business or related field
2. Medical billing, revenue cycle, and/or coding certification (CRCR, CPC)
