The Personal Lines Underwriter is responsible for analyzing exposure-based risk for multiple classes of business submitted by independent agents. Must be able to negotiate pricing and coverage options with agents, on a timely basis, in order to determine acceptable risks at an adequate premium.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Be technically competent to rate the following lines of business: Homeowners, Mobile Homeowners, Landlord Package, Dwelling Fire and Personal Inland Marine.
- Prepare and communicate premium quotations to agents upon request or in response to submissions. Correspond with agents when necessary to obtain missing information on applications or to clarify stated information.
- Review & process all new business applications, renewals, endorsement requests, non-renewals, policy change notices and cancellations. Obtain all necessary information to ensure accurate data prior to issuance of policies, invoices and notices. This also includes reinsurance analysis of each policy determining qualification, verifying system reinsurance premiums and submission to the reinsurance carrier.
- Respond promptly to verbal or written requests or questions from agents and insureds.
- Forward inspection request information and review completed inspections. Notify agents of recommendations resulting from inspections and update the policy file accordingly.
- Maintain working knowledge of the underwriting manual, manual rating, endorsements and forms available.
- Visit new and current agents with Marketing / IS to explain our current products available and strengthen agency-company relations.
- Attend educational seminars/training to maintain insurance license and other designations, if applicable, as well as promote continued knowledge of current insurance practices.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- 3-5 years of personal lines underwriting experience in property/casualty insurance industry preferred; AINS, AIS, CPCU completed or in progress preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Must possess high level mathematic and logic skills.
- Advanced knowledge of insurance.
- Familiarity with computer processing and data entry.
- Customer service oriented.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
Employment:
- Location: Cuba, New York / Remote NY-PA only
- Job Status: Full Time, Non-exempt
- Work Schedule: Mon – Fri, 8:00 am – 4:00 pm
- Base Salary Range: $42,000 – 57,000 annually
Individual compensation packages are based on various factors unique to each candidate, including skill set, experience, qualifications, and other job-related reasons.
