What are the responsibilities and job description for the Museum Educator position at Allentown Art Museum?

Supervisor(s): Director of Education and Public Engagement and School and Family Education Manager

Classification: Part-Time, 10 - 15 hours a week (Weekends: Saturday and Sunday, 11am – 4pm)

Compensation: Hourly, $22 per Hour

The Museum Educator (Family and PreK-12) is a member of the Education and Public Engagement (Ed&PE) team with a focus on implementing high-quality programs for students, educators, and families in the Museum community. The individual in this role, along with another member of the Ed&PE team, will primarily manage the Art Ways Family Interactive Gallery and the ArtVentures program during weekend open hours. This individual will introduce diverse audiences to new modes of thinking, playing, and working creatively through the various Maker Stations and the Crayola Classroom located in Art Ways. In particular, this individual will assist in developing and delivering hands-on art-making activities inspired by works in the Museum galleries. This interactive program and the Art Ways space are key community initiatives designed to create opportunities for connection while building lifelong learners and museum goers.

Key Programmatic Responsibilities

· ArtVentures - Weekend Programming for families in the Crayola Classroom. For more information, visit: https://www.allentownartmuseum.org/experience/artventures/

· Art Ways and Crayola Classroom - AAM’s arts classroom sponsored by Crayola. This position will assist in supply management and organization as well as preparing and cleaning classroom and Art Ways during and after public programs

· Gallery Treasure Hunts offer a self-guided educational experience. Visitors explore the galleries with the help of the Treasure Hunt, and can return it for a chance to claim a prize.

· Family Days - AAM hosts festivals and Family Days including annual Juneteenth, MLK, Hispanic Heritage, Free Forever, and Earth Day Celebrations as well at Mystery at the Museum and exhibition openings. For more information, visit: https://www.allentownartmuseum.org/experience/

· Assist with other school programs and tours as needed

Additional Responsibilities

· Work closely with the Museum volunteers to ensure an inclusive and dynamic experience for visitors

· Retain records of relevant programs including enrollment, attendance numbers, and evaluations.

· Oversee and collaborate with Museum staff to deliver programming, content, and educational opportunities that:

- Align with the Museum’s overall strategic vision and plan

- Connect with a wide-range of stakeholders including children, teens, families and the overall community.

- Educate, inspire, and engage AAM’s diverse audiences

· Coordinate and assist in new and established programs aimed at promoting learning in informal education settings and fostering intergenerational learning communities, while encouraging innovation and creative thinking skills with youth in our Art Ways interactive family gallery and Crayola Classroom.

· City Arts Camp - Children ages 7-11 can participate in this summer camp run by the Museum in collaboration with Repertory Dance Theater, Miller Symphony Hall, Civic Theatre of Allentown, the Baum School of Art and Community Music School. They will experience performance through music, dance and acting and create their own visual artworks through painting, drawing and sculpting.

Administration, Operations, and Other Responsibilities

· Oversee the organization, supply inventory, and overall procedures and aesthetics of the Crayola Classroom and Art Ways area

· Work with and develop dynamic relationships with AAM staff, artists, community leaders, and most importantly, AAM’s diverse 'visitorship'

Competencies and Skills

· Bilingual, Spanish and English, strongly preferred. Monolingual educators will be considered

· Availability to work weekends and occasional weekdays

· High School Diploma with relevant experience and/or studies in areas related to PreK – 12 education, art education, museum studies, studio art, camps, and community building. Bachelor’s Degree is a plus.

· Passion for engaging families and PreK-12 students of diverse ethnic, economic, and religious backgrounds and developmental abilities in discussions about art and creating art.

· Experience in classroom management, engaging with the community, creating, and implementing hands-on and interactive learning experiences.

· Working knowledge and fluency in using Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Publisher, PowerPoint)

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $20.00 - $22.00 per hour
