This position will be responsible for providing leadership for portfolio services and strategic portfolio hedge recommendations to ACES’ clients as well as management of the participating Members’ and Customers’ portfolios, inclusive of hedging strategies, trade execution, and performance and assessment of commercial impacts of market changes on portfolios.
Duties and Responsibilities
Portfolio Strategy
- Officer-level responsibility for coordination across ACES departments and communication relating to long-term (>3 months and up to 10 years) recommendations to clients.
- Coordinate the interface of ACES Front, Middle and Back office subject matter experts in support of client forward market hedge recommendations in accordance with risk management and power supply cost metrics.
- Design reporting frameworks with clients and internal ACES service providers to provide insight about client portfolios and forward risk metrics.
- Develop client-specific analytical support to interpret long-term portfolio risks and the effects of risk mitigation activities.
- Develop communication timelines and manage periodic meetings with clients and ACES service providers.
- Work with clients and ACES Middle office to develop hedging policies that represent each company’s distinct risk tolerance.
- Supervise Portfolio Strategy team in the development of strategic portfolio hedging strategy recommendations in accordance with established risk management and portfolio cost metrics.
- Construct, document and implement streamlined client processes to receive client portfolio data on a regular timeline and provide clients with regular reporting designed to meet the needs of various client departments/stakeholders.
- Ensure coordination with trading personnel in Fuels, Portfolio Management and Transmission on short-term portfolio.
- Gather and convey market intelligence and risk management advice to clients.
- Present portfolio hedge recommendations to client senior management, defend the recommendation and effectively articulate the risk management need within the portfolio.
- Provide reports to executive-level management and to boards of directors of clients and ACES.
- Coordinate with IT to provide business analytics for internal and external performance reporting.
- Expand service opportunities and extend relationships with existing clients.
Portfolio Management
- Overall accountability for Members’ and Customers’ portfolios.
- Develop and execute hedging strategies for Members’ and Customers’ portfolios in accordance with established risk management and power supply cost metrics.
- Provide direction to trading personnel on the short-term management of the Members’ and Customers’ portfolios in accordance with established risk management and power supply cost metrics.
- Supervise commercial teams responsible for real-time and term portfolio management of the Members’ and Customers’ portfolios in accordance with established risk management and power supply cost metrics.
- Lead person for management of portfolio growth including assessments on market structures, commodity products, rules and regulatory impacts, and personnel.
- Provide direction and oversight with regards to the quantitative analysis of client portfolios and hedging performance.
- Lead commercial consultant with regards to new/existing business development regarding market studies, portfolio assessments and commercial analysis.
- Develops, provides and maintains Executive Level reporting requirements to senior management.
- Develops and directs the communication of ACES portfolio performance to Members’ and Customers’ including the areas of operational and financial performance, budget goals and hedging decisions.
- Interface with all ACES functional areas for an integrated management of Members’ and Customers’ portfolios in accordance with established risk management and power supply cost metrics.

- Adheres to and is supportive of all ACES corporate policies and complies with all regulatory requirements including but not limited to NERC, FERC and relevant state regulations as applicable to the position

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor Degree in related discipline
- 15 years of experience in energy industry for Senior Vice President role; 10 years of experience for Vice President role. Experience in one or more departments: Origination, Mid-marketing, Trading, Transmission, Portfolio Management, Portfolio Modeling, Middle and/or Back office activities of power marketing.
- National Commodity Features Examination, Series 3 qualification in past 2 years OR will sit after hired.
- Knowledge of traded energy commodities, risk management products and risk management fundamentals.
- Knowledge of portfolio management and finance concepts including asset valuation, correlation of investment returns, option valuation techniques, and probability theories.
- Experience and working knowledge of the US electric transmission grid and associated regional transmission organizations (RTOs), Independent System Operators (ISOs), and established pools and their associated constructs for energy, capacity, ancillaries, transmission and other products.
- Knowledge of commodity markets including trading platforms, margining rules, and commodity trading industry structure.
- Excellent knowledge of electric generation assets and related fuels.
- Excellent customer relationship management skills and ability to build business relationships with other companies
- Collaborative team player with a positive attitude. Capable of leading and participating in cross-functional project teams to meet key milestones and goals.
- High degree on analytical ability, mathematics, and technical concepts.
