We are currently recruiting for an experienced Lead Gas Technician to join our team in Mauston, WI.
In this role, you will supervise a small crew and that takes part in installing and maintaining gas distribution systems. This position is also responsible for assigning personnel to the installation of electric underground cable.
This position has a 25 minute residency requirement from the Mauston Operating Center.
Job Responsibilities
- Supervises a small crew and takes part in installing and maintaining gas mains and services; could supervise a small crew and take part in installing electric underground cable, pedestal stakes and ground rods when performed concurrently with gas; plans work for most efficient use of personnel and equipment. Work consists of such tasks as, employing all types of bypass and tapping equipment, purging and cleaning mains and services, installing and removing gas meters and regulators and valves as required, taking tests of pressures and odor level, investigating and repairing leaks, operating and caring for tools and equipment, reading gas meters, and performing other similar type tasks.
- Observes system and plant gauges and charts and makes necessary adjustments to equipment as required; makes routine tests as directed.
- Responsible for proper record keeping and makes reports as required.
- Contacts customers or property owners regarding work to be done, plant outages, etc.
- Responsible for proper training of assigned employees and general personnel.
- Performs incidental customer service work.
- Performs all work according to established company procedures and safety practices.
- Performs other duties which are similar, related or incidental to this position.
Job Qualifications
Experience
- Understanding of mathematics and physics at a high school level
- 2 years' experience in the more skilled phases of gas distribution work
- Journey card from an accredited gas program is required
Other Requirements
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
- Ability to obtain a Commercial Driver's License prior to the end of trial period
- This position is covered by the Department of Transportation regulations on drug/alcohol testing (CFR 49, Parts 40, 199 and 382), and is subject to drug/alcohol testing according to said regulations.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of state and local regulations and company policies pertaining to gas distribution work
- Demonstrated ability to supervise others
- Ability to perform physical responsibilities of the job.
- Ability to work effectively in a culturally diverse work group.
