SUMMARY
Responsible for the profitable production and retention of program book of business. Customer satisfaction with brokers, clients and internal departments is essential. Working with underwriters, the manager will be responsible for the developmental management of the underwriting process to improve and maintain premium volume in line with corporate strategies. Additionally, as needed, provide a variety of customer services to management, wholesale brokers, Account Managers and support to the underwriters on existing business. This position is within our Astrus operations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Directs and monitors the underwriting strategy per carrier and corporate guidelines;
- Develops staff proficiencies with rules and regulations;
- Monitors and enforces underwriting procedures and guidelines, ensuring underwriter compliance with established authority levels;
- Monitors staffing levels and developmental needs of the underwriting staff and make recommendations, as needed;
- Develops program business, as needed;
- Maintains and manages operating results, competitor methods and analyzes insurance trends;
- Manages and provides guidance on complex issues;
- Develops, monitors, and maintains strong, profitable relationships within the company, brokers and insurance markets;
- Monitors and manages in force book of business to include close communication with loss control and claims staff;
- Handles new and renewal business coordination for program brokerage business;
- Creates timelines for renewals;
- Communicates effectively any underwriting changes as necessary;
- Maintains updated logs; submissions, written/lost business, bordereaux, etc.;
- Commits to the complete servicing and overall handling of account submissions ensuring work is properly completed, which includes monitoring and checking the work from Retail Brokers and Underwriters;
- May meet with Companies, Retail Brokers, and Clients/Insured;
- Attends on-going training as required;
- Attends weekly meetings as required;
- Travels as necessary;
- Complies with agency management system data standards and data integrity (enters and maintains complete and accurate information);
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
Ten (10) or more years related work experience; including Underwriting with emphasis in program business preferred
Requires a valid insurance license; must continue to meet requirements for license renewal
Requires a valid driver's license
SKILLS
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Good customer service skills, including telephone and listening skills
Good problem solving and time management skills
Ability to work within a team and to foster teamwork
Excellent planning, organizational and prioritization skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office products
