Job Title: Linux System Administrator
Work Location: Silver Spring, MD (100% telework, may need to be onsite as needed for special projects)
Clearance Required: Must be a US Citizen and able to obtain a Public Trust clearance
Position Description/Scope of Work:
The Linux System Administrator will be responsible for designing, implementing, and monitoring the infrastructure; also, to collaborate with other team members to develop automation strategies and deployment processes. You will become an integral part of a close-knit team, making every problem of the platform a problem of your own, and solving them accordingly. Also innovating to come up with infrastructure improvements.
Responsibilities:
- Manage and maintain Infrastructure using Ansible. Write Ansible playbooks
- Manage and maintain Virtualization clusters.
- Oversee platform software releases, system upgrades, evaluates, and install patches and resolves software related problems. Perform ongoing performance tuning.
- Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.
- Perform regular vulnerability patching and monitoring.
- Oversee daily backup operations are performed, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media, recovery tapes or disks are created, and media is recycled and sent off site as necessary.
- Manage Bareos agent on servers
- Deploy web applications with Apache or Nginx
- Build VM in vmware or EC2 instance in AWS
- Configure/add new services as necessary and implement new platform features.
- Upgrade and configure system software that supports infrastructure applications or Asset Management applications per project or operational needs.
- Maintain Linux image installed on Laptops and servers.
- Attend change, problem management, TAC and other review boards as required.
Required Skills:
- Demonstrated knowledge and working experience in both Linux OS (RHEL/CentOS/AlmaLinux) and container technology.
- Linux System Administration in virtualized environments
- Experience working with DevSecOpsmethods to support application development, deployment, and support.
- Demonstrated experience in configuration management tools such as Ansible or Puppet
- Experience with web servers Tomcat, Apache or Nginx. Familiarity with web-based technologies, including but not limited to, reverse proxy servers, SSL certificate configuration.
- Responsible for improving upon existing processes and systems using significant conceptualizing, reasoning, and interpretation.
- Storage knowledge and experience with filesystems configuration along with Logical Volume Manage (LVM) strong knowledge of NFS and/or Ceph
- A team player with a track record for meeting deadlines
- Takes ownership of assignments, working with minimal direct supervision, and updating Jira Service Tickets regularly.
- Ability to effectively communicate (verbal and written correspondence) in a professional and courteous manner with technical and non-technical personnel.
- Experience with cloud infrastructures, AWS or other cloud providers is a plus
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational and facilitation skills

- Scripting
Desired Certification(s):
- RedHat Certified System Administrator and any Network/Windows and similar Certs are a plus
- AWS certifications a plus
Required Education:
- High School diploma or equivalent required
Preferred Education:
- Bachelor's degree, with a technical major, such as engineering or computer science
