Minimum Position Requirements:
- Associate’s degree (at a minimum) or 3 years of experience in the food industry is required.
- Technical knowledge of Quality and Food Safety systems.
- Experience related to internal/third-party/customer food safety audits, and regulatory
compliance inspections
- Ability to complete corrective/preventive actions (CAPA) for food safety issues, identify
root causes and ability to follow up
- Strong organizational, leadership and communication skills
- Ability to work well as a member of a cross-functional team
- Excellent problem solving skills
- Strong computer skills with experience using Microsoft Office Suite
Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Implement and enforce the site specific food safety system including Current Good
Manufacturing Practices (cGMP’s), Quality / Food Safety related Pre-Requisite Programs, Risk-Based Preventive Controls (FSMA), and SOP’s/Policies related to Quality and Food Safety.
- Assist in maintaining and improving the Food Safety Plan and FSMA Plan to ensure improved communication of the facility’s Food Safety and Quality systems to suppliers, customers, employees, and regulatory authorities.
- Required to attend training to become a Preventive Control Qualified Individual (PCQI) and assist with managing the Food Safety system to ensure compliance with Food Safety
Modernization Act (FSMA) requirements.
- Required to attain HACCP Certification and become an SQF Practitioner for the facility.
Assist with managing the Food Safety and Quality Systems to meet SQF Edition 9 Pet Food Manufacturing standards. Perform the obligations of SQF Practitioner as outlined in the current SQF Code.
- Assist with maintaining and improving the site implementation of corporate goals, objectives, policies, procedures, systems and other requirements pertaining to Food Safety and Quality.
- Provide Food Safety / Quality related training to Quality and Sanitation employees and plant personnel when required.
- Alerts FS/QA Manager, and others in site leadership of any non-conforming product identified during data review.
- Review and approve Food Safety/Quality documentation as part of the company’s release policy, including product release in the company ERP system; as needed.
- Collaboration with R&D and Sales teams during product testing and commissioning for sample collection, submission, and test/commissioning protocol completion.
- Administration of hold program for non-conforming product
- Create and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s).
- Conduct periodic internal audits related to Quality and Food Safety.
- Assist in mock recalls.
- Assist in customer/consumer complaint investigations, root cause analysis, corrective/preventive actions using the Customer Complaint process and submitting to upper management for approval.
- Notify relevant company officials of Quality and Food Safety issues; as needed.
- Work closely with FS/QA Manager and Site Director (if needed) on continuous improvement across the facility.
- Responsible for directing, mentoring, and coaching both the Quality Assurance and Sanitation departments.
- Conduct data analysis to investigate Food Safety and Quality issues and provide support for operational improvements.
