JOB PURPOSE:
The Quality Manager is responsible for the food safety and quality programs and procedures necessary for FDA, USDA-EU, State, and third party regulatory requirements. These responsibilities will include developing and maintaining a fail-safe food safety program that empowers a continuously-improving environment. Responsibilities also include self-auditing and proper documentation of all QA programs.
DESCRIPTION OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Develop, implement, audit and maintain Safe Quality Food Policies and Procedures, including HACCP, Bio-Terrorism, and FSMA.
- Oversee and monitor product safety, quality and integrity through continuous sampling, testing and observations of the raw material to the finished product.
- Manage and operate lab and trains other employees on TQM systems.
- Maintain, operate and train employees on lab equipment (HPLC, Peroxide Value, Protein Analyzer, Quantitative Toxin Testing). Responsible for determining lab process and equipment capability.
- Support the sales division with the continuous gathering and documentation of information dealing with regulations, customer inquiries, labeling or other requested information by fielding phone calls and email requests from both customers and Lortscher sales group.
- Review complaint issues that include proper documentation, investigations, customer contact, corrective and preventative actions and follow-ups necessary.
- Facilitate and maintain pest control and sanitation-related issues.
- Oversee lab testing of finished product and raw materials, including environmental testing.
- Continually maintain and pursue cost effective adherence to outside vendors such as lab and pest control costs.
- Organize and maintain the Organic certifications that include annual inspections and continuous adherence to protocols or changing NOP rules.
- Develop product specifications and/or facilitate changes in specifications with regard to FDA regulations; maintaining familiarity with new/developing FDA CFR rules. Advise and implement correct labeling for finished products based on the FDA and CFR regulations.
- Provide calculated and/or analyzed nutritional information for new products.
- Oversee Quality Control Supervisor and the Lab Technicians.
- Drive quality awareness throughout the organization and articulately communicate quality-focused strategies to build a strong and clear understanding of needs, expectations and the commitment required by each associate to ensure site quality goals and initiatives are mastered and delivered.
- Provide training for new and continuing education for production employees as necessary on GMP, allergen, food defense, HACCP and other policies.
- Be available to help in all other departments of LANI when asked upon by your department manager.
- Regular, predictable attendance is required and is an essential function of the position
- Should the Site QA Manager be absent and unable to perform their duties as it relates to the Food Safety and Quality Management and SQF Systems their direct supervisor will resume these responsibilities.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: (To perform this job successfully, and individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required).
- Education: Bachelor Degree or higher in Food Science or similar area required.
- Experience: 3-5 years experience in a food or feed related industry preferred. Experience in quality and regulatory may be substituted for education when supported by formalized training.
- Required to have SQF practitioner and HACCP certifications, FSPCA Preventative Controls for Animal Food certification, or must attain within 12 months of hire date.
- A demonstrated track record of accomplishments in the Quality Assurance industry including, but not limited to, Quality Assurance Food Safety and Quality Policies and Procedures.
- Team player, detail oriented, self-starter, and problem solver.
- Confident communicator with the ability to initiate, cultivate, and build relationships with a wide range of professionals.
- Ability to made decisions, communicate effectively, and work effectively with internal and external customers.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or other related software
- Willing to work in a team environment and contribute to group goals
