The role of the Head of Repair & Overhaul Strategy is to develop and deliver the repair and overhaul strategic plan of Parts & CRO (Component Repair Overhaul) business unit; consisting of defining the sites industrial footprint, identifying and realizing opportunities to increase sales and profitability through internalizing repair activities, assisting O&M sisters division in their repair and overhaul programs, supporting the Merger & Acquisition program, as well as conduct/support associated governances and business cases.
Execute the Parts & CRO business strategy and internal customer requirements to increased performance, capability and growth of our sites. It is a key strategic role for the organization and our ability to growth the Services North Americas business.
Reporting directly to the Head of Parts & CRO, the Head of Repair & Overhaul Strategy will be expected to work autonomously, setting high personal standards, delivering objectives and reports in a timely and accurate manner. This role could be based in one of the following sites: New Castle, USA / Naperville, USA / Pittsburgh, USA / Mississauga, Canada / St-Bruno, Canada.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Define the commercial strategy for the component repair and overhaul business segment supporting the Alstom Services objectives
- Develop and implement the component repairs and overhaul strategy based on Parts & CRO commercial objectives, customer needs (internal & external) and overall growth strategy
- Define the industrial capabilities, expertise’s and strategic plan for each site, as well as the roadmap to increase site performance, knowledge, experience, credibility and volume.
- Support Strategy and Business development activities related to component repair and overhauls across the Region, as needed by the commercial and bid teams.
- Plan and implement internalization of overhaul/repairs in the NAM Parts & CRO region, including the knowledge transfer from other regions or suppliers.
- Identify the list of opportunity for internalization of repairs and support to other Services or Rolling Stock business units.
- Proactively advise and propose improvements on any service project questions (operations, contracts), across the region.
- Lead and create business cases for Make vs Buy analysis, including localization projects.
- Align the business cases with the Central and NAM Services strategies.
- Produce the business cases, coordinate the inputs from multiple métiers; Sourcing, Supply Chain, Industrial, Project, Site, Engineering, Contracts, Finance, considering current and future sites capabilities and local content requirements (Minor Business Enterprise and Buy America).
- Produce business cases for each identified work package detailing a full cost analysis, using a structured business model to give a clear rationale supporting the recommendation.
- Manage and execute the Make vs Buy vs Local projects for the overhaul and corrective work for subsystems.
- Determine the optimal solution to deliver Quality, Cost savings and On-Time projects.
- Optimize costs to reduce Life Cycle Cost (LCC), deliver project savings and reduce risk in the execution of each overhaul/repair projects.
- Create plan to improve reliability and availability in our projects.
- Track project progress including adherence to the schedule, budget and quality, in line with governance requirements.
- Lead the Internal Sales and support the other Alstom business units in their repairs and overhaul programs.
- Build and promote strong, long-lasting internal customer relationships by partnering with Operations & Maintenance Site Managers, Rolling Stock Manager, Central teams and understanding their needs.
- Promote Parts & CRO repairs and overhaul capabilities and expertise internally in order to centralize repairs and optimize the footprint across NAM Services.
- Support Merger & Acquisition (M&A) projects to increase internal capabilities in Parts & CRO, including potential acquisition company visits and business case preparation.
- Adopt standard Alstom processes and rules for business development and project execution activities.
- Develop ideas for new products/ services based on current products or emerging internal customer needs while being fully aware of new products and competition status.
- Develop understanding of the competitive environment for component overhaul and repair.
- Analyze business results & competitive performance and make recommendations based upon a thorough understanding of Alstom, our customers and market dynamics to meet/exceed our financial targets.
- Plan for and attend key industry events, tradeshows, local meetups, conferences, and build a social media presence to represent Alstom.
- Participate on the various projects supporting the Growth Strategy such as
- Implement the Alstom Part and Overhaul Operating model (APO-Line). Push the creation of new opportunities with Customer (Alstom installed based analysis).
- Systemize and leverage component overhaul solutions as well as R&D program.
- Enter new market (develop new solutions, prepare plan for merger, acquisition and partnering).
Requirements
- Global thinking, strategic vision, understanding of market needs and competitive trends
- Bachelor's or master’s degree from an accredited university in Business or in Engineering
- At least 15 years’ experience in rail repairs, overhaul or maintenance
- At least 10 years of strong leadership in the repair and overhaul business environment.
- Business Acumen and ability to anticipate customer needs
- Strong ability to influence, convince and persuade others
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to build relationships
- Proven stakeholder management skills.
- Strong project management, leadership, and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and within a team
- Proficient user of Word, Excel & PowerPoint
