What are the responsibilities and job description for the PrEP Navigator I position at AltaMed?
The PrEP Navigator provides quality and comprehensive HIV/STI Health Education, HIV counseling and testing, and facilitates HIV Prevention and PrEP/PEP Navigation Services to clients at high risk for infection or transmission of HIV.
Requirements
- HS Diploma or Equivalent (GED) – Required
- BA in social services or other human-related field – Preferred
- 1 year minimum of experience in a human services field. Mental health, substance use disorders, homeless services – Required
- Previous experience providing HIV prevention or case management services – Preferred
- 1 year minimum of professional experience in motivational interviewing and/or demonstrated capacity to deliver client-centered harm reduction counseling – Highly Preferred
- Experience delivering case management services to low income, at-risk Hispanic populations – Preferred
- Certified as a HIV Test Counselor Los Angeles Division of HIV and STD Programs OR HIV Test Counselor training within 3 months of employment – Required
- Bilingual – Required
- Over the age of 21 – Required
Top Responsibilities
- Provide HIV/STI testing on the Mobile unit, in ‘storefront’/clinical settings, and in field-based locations
- Conduct risk behavior screenings to provide basic PrEP/PEP information and other HIV prevention options as necessary
- Coordinate program intakes and assessments with PrEP/PEP clients
- Conduct referrals as needed based on the assessments conducted at program intake and follow-ups
- Manage and track the referral of clients to medical care and necessary support
- services in the community
- Provide education about benefits that a client may be eligible for and/or explain how
best to use existing benefits
- Coordinate patient appointments for PrEP/PEP initial and follow-up medical and non-medical visits
- Provide PrEP/PEP education regarding adherence, missed dose protocols, side effects, and symptoms of seroconversion
- Coordinate patient appointments for PrEP/PEP initial and follow-up medical visits
- Accurately complete required documentation for HIV Prevention programs including HIV counseling and testing forms, client satisfaction surveys, incentive logs, program forms, and others as determined by HIV Prevention Team leadership
Will perform core responsibilities and duties in a variety of environments both indoor and outdoor, including:
- Climate controlled office and/or clinic environment
- Mobile Testing Unit
- Nightclubs, bars, etc.
- Parks and festivals
- LQBTQA Spaces and Environments
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $24.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
