Job Summary
The Parent Engagement Coordinator (PREIS) supports the Alternatives for Girls' mission, and is responsible for coordinating and implementing activities and workshops for groups of parents with the goal of strengthening parent/caregiver relationships, youth development, and risk prevention. Personal Responsibility Education Innovative Strategies (PREIS) is a program funded by the Office of the Administration for Children & Families in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. AFG has been a PREIS grant recipient since 2016.
AFG implemented the Lead Her and Sassy Science curricula with over 200 African-American and Latina girls each year for ages 14 to 19 in afterschool and community programs in Detroit. We provide students with education on the several adulthood preparation topics, including: healthy relationships, financial literacy, educational and career success, and healthy life skills.
Key Responsibilities
Coordinate and implement parent group activities and workshops needed to meet grant and program goals.
Perform community outreach. Travel to middle schools to recruit and enroll young girls in designated programming (Girls with Ambition).
Meet with participants and parents to answer questions about the program. Help participants fill-out an application and complete their enrollment packets, including signed consent forms.
Help the program meet its quality, scheduling, and budget requirements.
Ensure documentation and data entry for all program activities and workshops.
Compile statistics and narratives that contribute to monthly, annual, and ad hoc reports.
Perform other duties, as assigned.

Acquired Knowledge
An associate or bachelor’s degree in social work, education or another human services field is preferred; and 1-3 years of experience (equivalent life/work experience may be considered).
Experience with workshop planning and facilitation would be helpful.
Prior experience working with youth who are juvenile offenders, runaways, homeless or involved in high-risk activities is strongly preferred.
Must possess a current driver’s license, a good driving record and reliable transportation.
Requires good computer software and data entry skills.
Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred.
