ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Define, articulate, and promote the mission, vision and values of Mark Twain and district.
- Coordinate and lead the school improvement process.
- Establish high expectations for student achievement.
- Awareness of Trauma Informed Practices and Restorative Practices to maintain a therapeutic environment for students who have emotional disturbance in public day school.
- Broad knowledge of therapeutic processes and work collaboratively with therapeutic staff to deliver therapeutic services, develop therapeutic interventions and maintain a therapeutic environment.
- Establish and clearly communicate building priorities and long-range goals.
- Manage school safety and security processes including crisis management procedures.
- Manage and engage all stakeholder groups, including students, teachers, staff and families.
- Personally interact with parents and community members to promote positive school-community relations.
- Demonstrate fair and equitable treatment of all teachers, staff, and students by developing a sense of belonging and purpose.
- Promotes an environment in which conflict resolution and trauma informed practices are valued and worked through collaboratively.
- Demonstrate continued personal growth through participation in professional activities and organizations.
- Act as a role model for expected staff behavior by demonstrating leadership, management, communication and instructional skills.
- Evaluate Dean of Students and other assigned licensed and educational support personnel.
- Select, onboard, mentor, develop and supervise the leadership team to ensure leadership sustainability and growth.
- Collaborate with other district and Special Education administrators in assessing and recommending district programs and policies.
- Support the implementation of the K-12 district-approved curricular scope.
- Effectively supervise and support the performance of the professional staff through frequent and ongoing observation and evaluation.
- Assist in the selection and assignment of Mark Twain personnel based on knowledge, ability, qualifications, past performance and school needs.
- Administer systematic and effective methods of objectively monitoring student progress.
- Evaluate progress toward instructional and organizational goals by utilizing data to identify, analyze and implement areas for school improvement.
- Provide for maintenance of accurate and current personnel, student and fiscal records.
- Model mutual respect, integrity and professionalism.
- Communicates and promotes high expectations for teaching and student learning in a variety of contexts, media and publications.
- Upholds the confidentiality of both student and staff related-matters including compliance with FERPA and the Illinois Student Records Act.
- Establishes and maintains a collaborative and transparent relationship with the Alton Education Association (employee union).
SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Ability to model and maintain professionalism at all times.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff members and students.
- Experience with Microsoft Office, Google for Education, Skyward and other cloud-based software.
- Ability to perform essential duties with an awareness of the school district, special education requirements and Board.
- Experience working with Professional Learning Communities (PLCs).
- Strong orientation toward providing students, staff and families with highly-responsive levels of service.
- Strong work ethic and organizational skills.
- Knowledge of Special Education law and regulations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants should hold the following qualifications:
- A minimum of a master’s degree in education or educational administration.
- Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with General Administration/Principal Endorsement.
- Progressive experience in teaching, related education specialty, administration or equivalent.
- Actively promote opportunities to celebrate diversity through a culturally-competent learning environment.
- Experience supervising educational leaders from a variety of academic areas and/or operational areas.
- Principal Evaluator designation (preferred).
- Teacher Evaluator designation (required).
- Experience planning and providing professional development and training for school staff.
- Experience working positively and productively with staff and K-12 students.
- Ability to present and produce documents at a high level of professionalism.
- Ability to make rational decisions, problem-solve and effectuate change.
- Broad knowledge of the policies and practices of K- 12 school administration, curriculum and instruction.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and stakeholders.
- Ability to manage fiscal, physical, and human resources to successfully carry out the functions/programs.
- CPI yearly certification

Pay: $92,000.00 - $96,000.00 per year
