Industrial Designer

Altria Client Services is looking for a creative Industrial Designer who can drive design and innovation within and across our product categories through consumer-centric packaging design. If you have a Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design along with proven experience in the design of packaging for consumer-packaged goods, we want to speak with you! We are currently looking for an Industrial Designer to join our Packaging Design & Innovation Department in Richmond, VA. The successful candidate will work multi-functionally with Brand Management, Design Agencies, Consumer Research, Engineering, Product Development, Manufacturing, Procurement, and our suppliers to develop new to the world packaging structures in alignment with Company Vision.

What you will be doing:

• Driving product excellence through innovation led, performance-centric and aesthetically pleasing packaging design.
• Researching and applying consumer lifestyle and design trends, cross referencing from fashion & beauty, furniture & home accessories, automotive, sport/lifestyle, packaging, music, art, and digital media.
• Advocating for and delivering all aspects of packaging design that relate most directly to consumer insights, innovation, creative direction, and functional problem solving.
• Creating 3D renders and 3D physical visual models that convey design intent across multiple internal and external partners.
• Engaging proactively with multi-functional groups to ensure new packaging meets product requirements as well as consumer expectations
• Using project management skills and tools to run development processes, budgets, and timelines
• Ensuring all Financial, Legal and Regulatory Compliance requirements are met during packaging development activities
• Independently applying technical principles and techniques to analyze and solve problems

We want you to have:

• A Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Design
• 10 years professional experience in the design of packaging for consumer-packaged goods
• Excellent 2D visualization skills including sketching, storyboarding, and digital rendering.
• Experience producing physical models of packaging concepts using rapid prototyping equipment and services
• Software Tools –Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, KeyShot, Solidworks, Artios CAD experience, Office Suite including PowerPoint and Excel.
• Familiar with packaging in a FDA regulated environment
• Understanding of environmental / sustainability concerns related to packaging
• Strong interpersonal collaboration skills with the ability to influence others without authority
• Self-motivated and must possess a high level of personal initiative
• Ability to be flexible in the face of rapidly evolving markets and business priorities
• Willingness to travel domestically and/or internationally to support business objectives
