We are currently seeking a Research Analytical Scientist to join our New Product Assessment group within the Analytical Sciences department located in Richmond, VA.
This position is a hands-on, laboratory-based role that will be responsible for testing products and prototypes, with a focus on chemical characterization. The candidate must have a strong understanding of chromatography separation techniques with mass spectrometry, sample preparation and strong problem-solving skills. In addition, the successful candidate will utilize their chemistry knowledge to provide insights to support product development initiatives and regulatory applications.
What you'll be doing:
• Independently develop and validate new methods for the analysis of multiple analytes including flavor compounds to support reduced harm product development and regulatory applications
• Collaborate with product developers and engineers to optimize the chemistry of our products
• Participate in scientific meetings and communicate our scientific strategies to develop reduced harm products
• Manage regulatory test data to ensure data integrity and meets acceptability for ISO quality system, and our regulatory reporting requirements
• Write and review scientific documents in a timely manner. (SOPs, VOPs, and Work Instructions)
• Perform other related duties as assigned
What we want you to have:
• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Forensic Science, Food Science, or related field, an advanced degree is preferred
• A minimum of 5 years of experience with a bachelor’s degree, or at least 3-year experience with an advanced degree
• Proficiency with liquid, and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry and ion chromatography for the analysis of compounds in complex matrices
• Proficiency with chromatography and mass spectrometry data analysis software’s such as MassLynx, Chromeleon, ChemStation and MassHunter
• Experience validating analytical methods according to ICH guidelines
• Experience working in tobacco industry and a regulated environment such as ISO 17025 is preferred
• Experience with evaluation of chemical stability for food or pharmaceuticals
• Experience with sample preparation and extraction techniques (LL, SPE, etc.) for the quantitative analysis of target compounds in complex matrices
• Ability to work independently, to multi-task, and to be a strong team player
• Strong problem-solving skills
• Excellent attention to detail, and strong verbal and written communication skills
