Information Management Analyst

The Information Management Analyst - STI Operations will support of the NASA Scientific and Technical Information (STI) program, this position is responsible for reviewing and evaluating documents to determine whether they are appropriate for inclusion into the NASA Technical Reports Server (NTRS), and will also assist with curation of digital image, multimedia, and full text/PDF documents within the repository.

In addition, this individual help maintain and further develop the NASA controlled vocabulary and apply metadata in support of the programs ontology goals and priorities. Works under limited supervision and uses independent judgment.

Primary/Major Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):

• Create and enhance cataloging records for STI documents.
• Review and analyze distribution authorization forms and corresponding document markings for dissemination requirements and distribution limitations.
• Provide subject-term indexing and classification based on the NASA Thesaurus and other authority files.
• Develop metadata schemas and controlled vocabularies to facilitate data exchange.
• Evaluate categorized content to identify gaps in coverage, misclassified content, redundant and/or ineffective categorization rules.
• Drive NASA’s controlled vocabulary change management and provides stakeholders guidance on taxonomy best practices and trends.
• Consistent cataloging of, indexing, and metadata creation for complex material to ensure discoverability in accordance with modern, recognized standards.
• Help to create and maintain local documentation on metadata standards and metadata application guidelines for the NASA Technical Reports Server (NTRS).
• Participate in evaluating new technologies and developments to ensure engagement with evolving national and international metadata standards.

• BA or BS degree in Information Technology, Data Analysis, Library and Information Sciences, Computer Science or related field.
• Experience in taxonomy, controlled vocabulary, and metadata development.
• Understanding of databases, working knowledge of digital content formats and standards.
• Detail Oriented - Ability to pay attention to the minute details of a project or task.
• Technical Aptitude - Ability to comprehend technical topics and specialized information
• US citizen / Able to pass a National Agency Check and Inquiries (NACI) investigation
