EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
The part-time summer, Upward Bound Activity Assistant is responsible for assisting with the supervision of project participants, for a federally funded grant TRIO Program to assist low-income, first-generation 9th-12th graders to graduate from high school and enter post-secondary education. The Activity Assistant reports to the Director, Upward Bound and provides direct services to students. The Activity Assistant facilitates elective-based activities and services that improve high school retention and graduation rates and promote the completion of a rigorous secondary school program of study. The Activity Assistant will communicate with project staff in order to meet any and all specific deadlines or program requirements. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Help orient students to campus resources (such as Learning Lab, Counseling, Career Center, Advising and other key resources).Help assess participant academic progress through weekly activities. Help students make mindful decisions and solving problems.Help students identify and overcome obstacles that may be impeding academic success.Help students focus on individual goals and identify steps to reach those goals.Motivate students to take ownership of their own academic success.Other related duties may be assigned.WORK ENVIRONMENTThe incumbent typically works in an office environment and uses a computer, telephone and other office equipment as needed to perform duties. The noise level in the work environment is typical of that of an office. Incumbent may encounter frequent interruptions throughout the work day. PHYSICAL DEMANDSThe employee is regularly required to sit, talk, or hear; frequently required to use repetitive hand motion, handle or feel, and to stand, walk, reach, bend or lift up to twenty (20) pounds.
