Position Summary:

This is a full-time, fully benefited, grant-funded position.

Increase the Association’s capacity to advance Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) to the Tennessee Chapter’s priority diverse communities, Reporting to the Director of Programs with active collaboration with other Chapter leadership, staff and volunteers from all pillars of the organization. The Diversity Coordinator is responsible for developing partnerships with the community to raise awareness and promote education about Alzheimer’s disease to high-risk families in underserved communities. In addition, Diversity Coordinator will oversee the development of the chapter’s statewide faith-based efforts with a particular focus on diverse communities. They will also assist in programmatic activities, including coordinating the recruiting process of volunteer facilitators. Occasional evening and weekend work required, as well as an ability to travel throughout the state.

Responsibilities:

Essential functions and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Developing a strategy and implementation plan to grow relationships in faith organizations statewide.
  • Coordinating outreach to faith organizations across Tennessee while developing relationships volunteers and partnerships within the state.
  • Partner across the pillars to develop and implement Chapter DEI strategies in support of achievement of DEI pillar key performance indicators.
  • Engage, train and manage relationships with Alzheimer’s Association community educators, community representatives, support group facilitators and other community volunteers, within diverse communities chapter-wide.
  • Increase reach of Alzheimer’s Association Common Programs with special emphasis on increasing participation among communities that have typically had low rates of engagement with the chapter, by identifying Volunteer Community Leaders in diverse communities who can help increase reach.
  • Implement a volunteer recruitment strategy to increase reach to diverse communities, while also managing volunteers dedicated to diversity outreach.
  • Building relationships and working collaboratively with local organizations in diverse communities to expand our delivery of core programs.
  • Recruiting, managing and supporting volunteers who can deliver core education and support programs in diverse communities.
  • Grow mission-driven partnerships with organizations serving diverse communities including, but not limited to: businesses, chambers, community-based organizations, faith communities, academic institutions, and social service organizations.
  • Implement the strategy for the Chapter’s outreach to diverse communities by:
  • Identify opportunities to raise awareness about Alzheimer’s and related dementias to increase the reach of the organization.
  • Work with other pillars of the Association to identify volunteers who will support the Association’s advocacy efforts, research goals, diversity efforts, and local fundraising efforts.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred or equivalent work experience in public health, social work or a related field.
  • Three years of community outreach experience, including three years of leadership experience in the area of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
  • Must possess valid driver’s license, access to reliable vehicle, proof of insurance and good driving record

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to work with diverse communities and demonstrate equity and inclusion with a demonstrated knowledge of the diversity, equity and inclusion field.
  • Ability to build effective relationship networks (inside and outside the Association), including supporting others to work towards common objectives
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, reflecting and understanding of the appropriate use of communication technologies and an appreciation that each audience requires its own approach.
  • Excellent presentation and facilitation skills that reflect an understanding of different learning modalities, group process, and cultural diversity.
  • Ability to travel throughout Chapter territory from program activities and regional conferences
  • Experience in the field of Alzheimer’s disease and dementia support is desirable, but not required.
  • Bilingual in English and another language is desirable, but not required.
  • Must be able to lift/push/pull up to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to travel 15-25%.
