GENERAL SUMMARY
This position is responsible for coordinating the activities of material handling employees in the performance of their duties, providing direction and leadership toward the attainment of departmental metrics. Elimination of material line shortages through teamwork, and communication to all relevant levels of the organization. Act as a mentor to fellow supervisors stressing teamwork and coordination of departmental activities. Completion of special projects as assigned.
Principle Duties & Responsibilities:
Work as a team member to continually improve departmental metrics
Supervise the activities of indirect material handling hourly employees in the performance of their jobs
Monitor potential and current “hot” shortages and take action to eliminate downtime caused by these shortages
Communicate with planners and other supervisors to ensure material is located when required for use
Ensure the line counts and reporting of shortages are accurate and timely; organize container management
Monitor future build requirements and ensure that material is moved to the production line in a timely manner
Knowledge of SAP and Microsoft Outlook
Ability to oversee long term projects to successful completion
Train hourly employees and determine if they have the skills to successfully qualify for open material positions
Determine demand for materials and make decisions on storage locations
Lead lean initiatives
Provide key material handling tracking Metrics
Lead daily shift meeting and group leader meetings
KNOWLEDGE and SKILLS:
A Bachelor’s degree is preferred but not required for this position
Three to five years of general experience and three to five years of supervisory experience.
Good organizational skills,
knowledge of MS Office Products,
High level of initiative.
Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbal.
SAP experience preferred.
Assist in the daily operation of materials scanners.
Strong problem solving, leadership, and supervisory skills.
Ability to motivate and ensure hourly employees stay on assigned tasks.
Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe working environment.
PHYSICAL EFFORT
Sight: must be able to regularly read computer screen, reports, and various documents with detail and clarity to accomplish work tasks in a safe and efficient manner. This includes regular use of adequate close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.
Hearing: must be able to regularly hear well enough to communicate.
Hand-Eye Coordination: must be able to regularly coordinate one’s eyes with one’s fingers, wrists, or arms to move, carry, or manipulate objects or to perform other job-related tasks.
Manual Dexterity: must be able to regularly make quick, accurate, skillful, and coordinated movement with hands and arms to grasp, place, move, or use objects such as phone, computer, and other office equipment, tools, or controls.
Agility: must be able to regularly bend, stretch, twist, or reach out with the body, arms, or legs to perform job tasks. This includes the ability to move throughout all areas of the facility, Company’s property surrounding facility, or additional work areas.
Climbing / Kneeling: must be able to occasionally climb, kneel, bend over, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, with balance.
Lifting: must be able to occasionally lift to 25 pounds with or without assistance.
Physical Strength: must be able to occasionally lift, push, pull, or carry objects using hands, arms, back, abdominal muscles, shoulders, legs, or a combination of these muscle groups.
Stamina: must be able to occasionally exert oneself physically over long periods of time. This may include performing repetitive or strenuous tasks as well as standing and sitting for long periods.
WORKING CONDITIONS
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routine uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and copy, fax and scanning machines. Employee must be able to perform job functions with appropriate intermittent relief where applicable under these conditions.
