**Job Summary: **

American Art Clay Company (AMACO) was founded in 1919 by Ted O. Philpott. AMACO is known for being the first to commercially manufacture ceramic and non-ceramic clays, lead-free glazes, electric kilns, and potter’s wheels. AMACO is a founding member of the Arts and Creative Materials Institute, which established safety standards for children’s art materials in 1936. AMACO continues to manufacture ceramic supplies with the highest quality and safety standards.

We are looking for an “Engineer / Safety” who will be a part of the continuous improvement of AMACO.

Responsibilities:

Safety (30%):

  • ** **Works closely with internal/external consultants for initial/regular assessments of safety and ergonomics.
  • Collaborates with management to develop, prepare, implement, and maintain safety policies and procedures.
  • Coordinates and improves safety programs to promote and ensure a safe working environment.
  • Reviews current safety training and recommends revisions, improvements, and updates.
  • Stops operations and activities that could harm staff or equipment.
  • Develop a culture to identify opportunities to minimize workplace injuries, accidents, and health problems.
  • Provides required safety program and procedure training (e.g., LO/TO).
  • Facilitates, organizes, and trains Safety Committee

Engineering (40%):

  • Ability to create technical documents to assist others in step-by-step operations or troubleshooting of control and electrical systems.
  • Ability to identify areas of weakness in the production line or finished products and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Strong understanding of quality standards for electronic and mechanical parts for quality assurance.
  • Creates mechanical models and tolerance analyses to simulate mechanical design concepts.
  • Leads and supports multi-departmental initiatives to achieve design/project requirements.
  • Oversees the work of contractors following project requirements.
  • Provides recommendations for key changes in our methods or processes to include presentations to individual work teams.
  • Documents and demonstrates solutions by developing documentation, flowcharts, layouts, diagrams, and charts.
  • Developing project scopes and objectives involving all relevant stakeholders ensures technical feasibility and that all projects are delivered on time and within scope and budget.
  • Conducts research, documenting findings, and presents reports at meetings.
  • Oversees technical aspects of applicable projects.

Manufacturing (30%):

  • Ability to create, troubleshoot, and improve current CNC programs to troubleshoot CNC programs.

  • Created and maintained production programs for CNC equipment.

  • Install tools and maintain offsets (Preferred).

  • Effective and efficient handoff of designed processes, programs, and production flow.

  • Thorough documentation for all processes and training to production, engineering, and

  • Install fixtures and make machine control settings (Preferred).

  • Use proper inspection tools to inspect parts to draw, such as dial calipers, micrometers, and the bore gauge.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

** Skills:**

Safety (30%):

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with proven ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with federal, state, and local regulatory agency staff.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of safety protocols and emergency preparedness.
  • Some knowledge of company safety policies and applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards is preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to conduct training.

Engineering (40%):

  • Strong professional skills, including project management, time management, verbal and written communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and duties with tight deadlines.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Statistical analysis.
  • Continuous Improvement (Lean Manufacturing preferred).
  • Punctual, reliable, and responsible.
  • Possess a professional and positive personality.
  • Ability to focus on the task and ensure the highest degree of accuracy and completeness.
  • High level of proficiency with technology; including Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), ERP/MRP systems (Dynamics NAM preferred) in a manufacturing environment.
  • Working knowledge of CAD software (SolidWorks and DraftSight preferred).

Manufacturing (30%):

  • Must be self-directed and able to work with minimal supervision.

  • Previous development/production environment experience.

  • Proficient in the production set-up.

  • Ability to read and understand GD&T.

  • Quickly respond to machine changes in audible, visual, and vibratory observation.

  • Must maintain efficiency to utilize machine capacity.

  • Effectively monitor product quality and make or recommend tool/method changes when

  • Knowledge of G and M codes is preferred.

  • Machine/Equipment used:- Manual lathes and mills

    • CNC lathes and mills
    • CNC routers
    • Haas
    • Mazak
    • Axis
    • Campbell

**Work Environment: **

This job may require you to stand for an extended period, and lifting/heavy lifting is required. You must also be able to work in hot and cold environments.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position. The hours of work are either Monday through Thursday, 10 hours per day, 4 days per week, or Monday through Friday, 8 hours per day, 5 days per week. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties are required.

Travel:

Some travel to local suppliers may be required.

Education and Experience:

  • BS in Engineering/Technology: Mechanical, Electro-Mechanical, Manufacturing Application or related field, or equivalent education and experience (required).
  • 3-5 years experience working in a technical capacity/environment (required).
  • 3-5 years experience working in a manufacturing environment or comparable (required).
  • 1-3 years of project management experience (preferred).
  • Experience administering employment policies and procedures (preferred).
  • Training or certification in safety (preferred).
