What are the responsibilities and job description for the Paralegal position at Amalgamated Transit Union?
The Amalgamated Transit Union has an opening for a paralegal to begin immediately. The ATU is the largest union representing transit workers in the United States and Canada. The ATU currently has one paralegal, and seeks to add a second paralegal to work alongside the department's six attorneys, in a fast-moving and collegial environment.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- The paralegal will perform legal and policy research concerning labor law, employment matters, and transportation issues.
- The paralegal will be responsible for the management of a significant portion of the ATU's program tracking federal subsidies to transit systems, and will review and respond to transit systems’ grant applications for federal funds to ensure compliance with labor protections.
- The paralegal will draft correspondence, memoranda and reports, and proofread for content, style, grammar and spelling.
- The paralegal will do fact research.
- The paralegal will organize and analyze documents and information, and build and maintain databases and files.

Location:
The paralegal will work out of the ATU’s headquarters office at 10000 New Hampshire Avenue, Silver Spring, Maryland.
Compensation:
Starting salary will be between $65,000 and $75,000 depending on experience. ATU provides medical, dental, vision and life insurance with no employee premiums; a defined-benefit pension plan with no employee contributions; a 401(k) savings plan; and paid vacation and sick leave.
