Amazon OpsTech Network Engineering is looking for a highly motivated Network Development Manager for our team in Bengaluru, India. The OpsTech Networking team develops the networks for all of Amazon’s fulfillment business covering retail operations. If you are passionate to help build next generation networks that power Robotics and IoT in retail space, this is the role.

As Network Engineering Manager you will be leading a team of experienced network development engineers and have direct ownership for global, end-to-end delivery of one of the key areas of our network; including network architecture, capacity management, network implementation, automation, standards, process management and change control. At Amazon, we ask our technical leaders to be strong engineers who can dive deep and get involved in addition to being strong managers.

As a manager within the Networking team, you will be expected to drive operational excellence in everything we do. This includes creating sane processes, procedures and automation to improve efficiency in our day-to-day tasks and projects. You will work closely on supporting our internal customers and ensuring that their needs and issues are being addressed.

Key job responsibilities
  • Network Development
As an engineering manager you are responsible to deliver highly scalable network architectures that are globally deployable.

  • Operational Excellence
As a manager you will be expected to drive operational excellence in everything we do. This includes creating processes, procedures, and automation to improve efficiency in our day-to-day tasks and projects. You will work closely with our internal customers and ensuring that their needs and issues are being addressed.

  • Network Measurement
As a Network Engineering Manager you will be expected to drive quality into the metrics we report to assist us in focusing on the areas that give us the best ROI. This includes measurement of our project plans, build schedules, issues, resolution rates, project plans, response times and cycle times.

  • Performance Management/Team Health
You will own all facets of performance and career management for the team. Regular one-on-one meetings with all team members are required. You will be expected to provide both technical and soft skill mentoring in order to maintain a well-rounded, world-class organization. This includes project management, quality audits and coordination of training sessions with senior-level engineers, as well as day-to-day oversight of the team.

  • Incident/Change Management
You will be integral to developing and improving incident and change management within the Networking space. Responsibilities include driving initiatives regarding improvements to existing tools & processes and providing feedback on new practices & procedures in order to scale with the rapid expansion of the Amazon platform and customer base.

  • Recruiting and Hiring
You will take the lead in hiring quality personnel who not only fit the needs of the current organization but also will allow the team to scale with platform and service growth. You will coordinate with Amazon and external recruiting staff to evaluate potential candidates, participate in initial phone screens and provide relevant guidance and feedback during on-site interview loops. You will also oversee ensuring that proper training takes place for all new hires.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Experience building and operating large-scale networks
  • Experience designing and operating mission critical systems
  • Experience in the application of network design, including knowledge of major routing protocols, topology design, network hardware, device configuration and traffic engineering.
  • Experience with project management, preferably Agile methodologies
  • Experience building production software applications or an understanding of software development, distributed systems and systems architecture
  • Exceptional customer relationship skills including the ability to discover the true requirements underlying feature requests, recommend alternative technical and business approaches, and lead engineering efforts to meet aggressive timelines with optimal solutions
  • Meets/exceeds Amazon’s leadership principles requirements for this role
  • Meets/exceeds Amazon’s functional/technical depth and complexity for this role

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $140,100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $272,400/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
