This position will be based in Seattle or Virginia and support the full range of AWS' businesses. International travel will be required.
The AWS Environmental Team is a rapidly growing and dynamic team with members around the globe. It is key to enabling AWS' worldwide growth, as well as ensuring compliance of AWS' operations in over 30 regions globally, across the full life-cycle of our physical data centers (and our reverse logistics operations). Key responsibilities include defining and implementing risk management and compliance systems and driving their implementation and continuous improvement; setting and refining global policies and procedures and working in partnership with business teams to ensure their execution; overseeing the development of standards, automation, tools, auditing and metrics, and employee training; ensuring effective engagement by environmental teams on global initiatives, including those that are part of Amazon's ambitious sustainability goals; providing specialist expertise as AWS delivers exciting new businesses and cutting edge technologies; and engaging with the required AWS stakeholders to provide scalable and effective environmental compliance and sustainability strategies that support current and future business objectives.

Key job responsibilities
As the Global Director of the Environmental Team, you will be responsible for hiring, leading, developing and motivating an experienced group of environmental professionals, including:
1. Continuing team development to ensure AWS is not only raising the bar on environmental compliance, but is proactive and looking around corners to anticipate newly emerging environmental challenges and trends.
2. Driving a goals and data-driven approach to ensuring that key objectives and /or outcomes are being achieved on the desired timelines and that our investment levels are driving the desired results.
3. Driving an innovation mindset to ensure continuous improvement of AWS's environmental programs while inventing and simplifying compliance processes to increase efficiency.
4. Driving automation, and creation of mechanisms to enable the teams to focus on their highest value contributions to AWS.
5. Shaping AWS' long term strategy on high impact and often novel issues on a global basis, and supporting partner teams across AWS achieve their goals including on high profile and important initiatives.
6. Ensuring that business partners deeply understand the implications of environmental compliance, and view the AWS Environmental Compliance team as valued partners in achieving their business goals.
7. Developing strong Amazonian leaders and highly motivated team members.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $218,800/year in our lowest geographic market up to $340,300/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
