The AWS Core Networking Organization is looking for a Software Development Manager to join our Network Product Development (NPD) team. The Software Development Manager will work hand-in-hand with Software Development and Network Engineering teams to develop solution architectures, while also helping to automate and invent new ways of operating Amazon's network. This role will interact with internal customers, senior peers and senior leadership. This role will develop best practices, improve operational procedures, use a proactive mindset, deliver iterative impact for customers and help drive this same culture across the team.
AWS Core Networking team is focused on building Data Centers and the network that allows Data Centers to function efficiently. They own the solutions that allow racks to be aggregated and Data Centers to be interconnected. Core Networking's goal is to balance efficiency, performance and reliability to allow customers access to their applications and data.

Key job responsibilities
You will be responsible to lead team of senior engineers in the field of Networking and System test that design, implement and maintain automated solutions/services across a variety of applications and systems/software.

You’ll also:
  • Lead the team that shapes the automation future in networking.
  • Build roadmaps and provide technical and thought leadership that builds automated test solutions in embedded networking space.
  • Manager performance and career growth for the team.
  • Build mechanisms within and across partner teams that avoids bottlenecks within the Software development, test and delivery workflows.
  • Define and deliver on Business priorities and goals that serves AWS networking and its customers.
  • Develop best in class software systems for automating Amazon's network.
  • Participate in an escalation on call rotation for all related issues, including high-impact systems and network events
  • Work closely with our Network Engineering teams to drive clarity on requirements and own end-to-end software roll-outs satisfying the requirements.
  • Write effective document narratives that describes business problem, technical solution, vision and/or Incident response.
About the team
Within AWS Networking, the NPD (Network Product Development) organization is responsible for designing the hardware, building the software, and owning the interconnects for the routers that power the global AWS network. Beyond product delivery we actively manage the fleet of routers in a network that experiences 70% growth annually. This means tracking key business and operational metrics to ensure that they operate smoothly and minimize or eliminate customer impact due to device related issues in order to maintain a transparent AWS customer experience.

  • • Experience in building Continuous Integration and Continuous Development (CI/CD) pipelines and processes.
  • Experience in designing Functional/System Test and Automation for a complex Networking use case and/or Switch/Router
  • Knowledge of major Internet routing protocols (Ethernet, ARP, IP, ICMP, UDP, TCP, SSL, DNS, HTTP, etc.).
  • Knowledge of Automation architecture, frameworks, build/development/test practices
  • Strong understanding of how commodity servers, operating systems and network devices function, perform and scale.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $148,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
