52 Eighty Logistics is seeking a highly motivated individual to fill the position of Operations Manager for our South Windsor, CT location. The ideal candidate has one year of management experience, a solid work history, along with proven organization and leadership skills. The Operations Manager, through direct involvement with all components of the operation, directs the day-to-day operations on the road. This position must organize and conduct activities to ensure safe, cost-effective, and on-time operating performance of the transportation system. The ideal candidate will be driven, a team player, have a high level of enthusiasm, excellent customer service skills and the ability to learn quickly. They will have prior experience in staff management. Reporting to ownership, this position demands strong communication skills, initiative, exceptional attention to detail, accuracy, and the ability to proactively manage multiple aspects of the day to day operations.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Oversee 25 daily routes and drivers to ensure that day-to-day processes and procedures are being executed professionally, effectively and efficiently; delegating workload when required.
- Administer and manage recruitment and selection, including on-boarding processes such as, new hire orientation and training of drivers.
- Monitor, coach and counsel employees job performance; discipline when required.
- Help maintain and develop employee incentive and appreciation programs.
- Schedule, execute and conduct staff and meetings.
- Manages / oversees all matters within dispatch, including, but not limited to planning and ensuring equipment maintenance, and dispatching.
- Controls on-time performance of routes and ensures each route is covered daily.
- Facilitates complaint resolution and resolving problems.
- Manages weekly driver schedule.
- Ensures overtime is controlled within budget.
- Maintains a positive work environment by providing all employees with fair and equitable supervision and encouraging professional and personal growth.
- Ensures all safety regulations are being observed and all training methods are adequate and effective.
- Documents employee performances, provides training, and applies appropriate discipline up to and including termination.
- Operations Manager has ability to make daily service related operational decisions in directing the affairs of drivers.
- Enforces company policies and procedures with drivers and office staff.
- Plans and implements efficiency improvements.
- Ensures that drivers and dispatchers operate in compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations according to federal, state, and local regulations.
- Promotes safe work activities by conducting safety audits and meeting with individual staff members.
- Be willing to get out and drive in an emergency if a driver is unavailable.
- Cover the after-hours phone as needed.
- Perform other duties as required.
Requirements:
- Be able to assimilate information quickly and accurately in order to make effective day-to-day operational decisions.
- Computer literate and have knowledge of MS Office.
- Familiarity with basic vehicle mechanical processes and maintenance preferred.
- Supervisory experience with hourly employees and knowledge of Human Resources issues.
- Strong organizational skills, the ability to effectively prioritize tasks, and strong time management skills.
- Must have previous management experience and ability to work well with and direct others.
- Must possess strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to foster open, honest two-way communication both internally and externally.
- Must be able to lift up to 75lbs.
- Must have a clean criminal history.
- Must be able to work hours as required and travel if necessary.
- Must be prepared to cover shifts with little notice if needed.
- Valid Driver's License.
- Ability to work independently, take initiative and be a self-starter.
- Ability to plan and organize workload; flexibility to handle pressure and work with interruptions and meet deadlines; attention to details.
- Ability to handle multiple priorities.

Experience & Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a Manager
- 1-3 years of experience in a management role, including staff management
- 1-3 years of payroll experience
- Valid Driver’s License
