AWS Applications is one of the most exciting new AWS organization, with products such as Amazon Connect, AWS Clean Rooms, Productivity tools and Just Walk Out, that attract a passionate and fast growing customer base. We are a new team within AWS Applications organization that is focused on providing immediate business value to advertising technology (ad tech) companies, media publishers as well as advertisers and brands. You will be joining a strong team with a great work environment, with an opportunity to lead the technology and product decisions we make on behalf of these interesting customer challenges.
Programmatic advertising – real-time buying and selling of ad space on websites, videos (premium content and user generated social media), games and audio (podcasts and music) – is a growing use case in the advertising industry. This includes a complex ecosystem of companies that have to interact with each other (send/respond to ad requests when the end-user requests a content), leverage data insights and machine learning to determine the optimized price on each ad opportunity and make decisions on the underlying ad creative all within milliseconds, without disrupting the end-user experience while the user consumes the content. Ad Tech companies require low latency (single digit latencies) at a very high scale (tens or hundreds of ad requests per day – translating to hundreds of PBs of data transferred daily) and hundreds of thousands of compute instances to manage the request volume. These workloads also generate a large volume of very insightful data during the process of real-time bidding, as well as user interactions on the ads that they need to collaborate on with their ad trading partners, in a privacy safe manner in order to measure the effectiveness of their ad campaigns. There is also a tremendous opportunity to optimize end user experience with relevant ads to their interests, using AI/ML (LLMs, VLMs) such as based on user’s past behaviors and relevant to the content they are consuming, as well as personalizing ad creative leveraging Generative AI.
A successful candidate will have demonstrated success in growing and managing large engineering teams, owning and operating a highly-scaled technical cloud service, and operational excellence coupled with a sustainable pace of feature delivery. Experience in databases, analytics engines, or big data is a big plus.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- BS degree in computer science, econometrics, statistics, or equivalent research field
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- 5 years of engineering team management experience
- Experience managing multiple concurrent programs, projects and development teams in an Agile environment
- 10 years of planning, designing, developing and delivering consumer software experience
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience designing and developing large scale, high-traffic applications
- Experience partnering with product and program management teams

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $176,100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $342,300/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
