The AWS Backbone Control and Fabric Services (BCFS) organization is looking for a Senior System Development Engineer to join our Core Service Automation team. In this role you will work hand-in-hand with System Development teams, Frontend Engineering teams, and Network Engineering teams to drive stability, consistency, and sustainability of the network while never losing sight of the high security bar our customer’s demand. You’ll apply your large-scale understanding of computing solutions to write code and manage services that delight our customers.
AWS Global Connectivity and Network Availability (GCNA) is the backbone that connects the global AWS network. Focused on controlling the internet traffic that allows users to access their information and applications regardless of where they are in the world. A day in the life
Engineers in the BCFS organization have a wide range of responsibilities: we work with internal partners to develop and implement the next gen platforms along with the tooling ecosystems to support with these platforms driving efficiency and scalability through the automation of builds, configuration deployment, and the scaling of capacity. Our team develops tooling that provides the required visibility and control of traffic across the network, while prioritizing the automatic mitigation of events to minimize the impact to our customers during events.
- Work in a 24x7 team on call rotation, with ability to drive into workplace for critical events/needs.
About the team
The Core Service Automation organization is responsible for the design, implementation, and operation of the DHCP and DNS systems that provide service to all Amazon data centers and offices.
We are open to hiring candidates to work out of one of the following locations:
Seattle, WA, USA
- 6 years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 4 years of programming with at least one modern language such as C , C#, Java, Python, Golang, PowerShell, Ruby experience
- 4 years of systems design, software development, operations, automation, and process improvement experience
- 3 years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or relevant degree/experience.
- Experience with distributed systems at scale
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines build processes
- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior management to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $121,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $235,200/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
