Job DescriptionPosition Overview:
The Plant Accountant will assist plant controller in all day to day accounting, planning, reporting, systems and controls to accurately reflect the plant financials. In cooperation with plant controller, they will perform and coordinate plant accounting and financial activities and ensure financial integrity of plant operations as well as drive continuous improvement ideas to maximize plant profitability, This is a hands-on role requiring successful candidate to work at both the detailed task level and to provide leadership while looking for cost savings along with system improvements.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
- Provide financial information, analysis and support to various stakeholders (Plant Controller, Plant Manager, Plant management team, and Specialty Containers [SC] management) as required
- Assist in the timely completion of the month-end financial close in accordance with Key process checklist and including accurate preparation of journal entries
- Assist in preparation of balance sheet account reconciliation and payroll audits
- Assist with the development of forecasts/budgets for plant
- Process plant freight, check requests, resolution of SAP/Ariba A/P issues, and intercompany transfers
- Manage the annual fixed asset audit and coordinate capitalization of new capital assets
- Assist with the coordination of internal and external audit requirements
- Prepare monthly Sales & Use Tax Returns, quarterly/annual Government Manufacturing Activity Survey, and other Provincial and/or Federal reporting requirements (i.e. Business Conditions survey, Energy Consumption Survey)
- Ensure plant personnel's adherence to ARPNA policy and financial data accuracy through transaction reviews, administration and review/approval of time reporting, inventory cycle count audits, HFI/OSM inventory reviews, fixed asset physical inventory, administration of fixed asset movements/capitalization
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA/CMA/MBA a plus) or 3-5 years of experience in accounting/finance in a manufacturing environment
- Demonstrates an awareness of all elements of plant's financial statements
- Ability to multi-task, reprioritize, and meet strict deadlines while working under pressure
- Sound problem solving and analytical skills
- Experience analyzing financial models
- Strong IT systems aptitude (Excel, SAP, BPC, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
