What are the responsibilities and job description for the Dance Film Editor (Part-Time Over-Hire) position at AMDA?
AMDA is looking for dance editors to add to our creative post-production teams. Dance Film Editors will assemble and manipulate footage from various student dance showcases and productions resulting in polished media assets ready for public distribution. Projects range from short-form 1-3 min creations to long-form works up to 45 min in length. Pay is based on hourly work and budgeted hours vary per project. Edits should be assembled according to notes from each show’s directors and senior production team members. The video editor will manage raw media associated with each project, including labeling, transferring, and encoding files as necessary. This position will also implement necessary improvements to color, framing, and sound for either technical or creative reasons.
Primary Responsibilities
- The Dance Film Editor is accountable to the School for performing the following duties:
- Communicate with AMDA Production teams and administration as required or necessary
- Provide guidance and direction on technical execution for high quality output
- Work within the given time constraints and available resources; coordinate with Production teams to assure all filming is completed within the given timeframe
- All editing and media management from assembly to final presentation (inclusive of basic sound and color)
- Listen, accept, and implement to the best of their ability, any notes from the show’s Director or Producer(s); one round of notes per edit - rough, fine, and delivery
- Delivery of final presentation and project files
- Provide software and equipment necessary for editing
- Due to a variety of points, maintain confidence of the final product unless otherwise requested
- Follow all overtime and meal break policies as communicated
- BA or BFA in a related field preferred
- 1 – 2 years of previous experience in a similar position
- Working knowledge of Adobe Premiere CC, Final Cut Pro X, or DaVinci Resolve (Premiere CC preferred)
- Very strong sense of music
- Can provide software and equipment with specifications necessary for editing
- Familiarity with troubleshooting non-uniform video codecs and frame rates
- Reel strongly encouraged
- Flexible attitude and professional demeanor
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
- Strong time management skills (especially pertaining to post production timelines)
- Must be reliable to editing assignments once confirmed
