Responsibilities: Position is located at VACAPES in Virginia. Perform non-routine and complex assignments involving responsibility for planning and conducting a complete project of relatively limited scope or a portion of a larger and more diverse project. Select and adapt plans, techniques, designs, or layouts, contact personnel in related activities to resolve problems and coordinate the work. Review, analyze, and integrate the technical work of others. Design, develop, and construct major units, devices, or equipment; conduct tests or experiments; analyze results and redesign or modify equipment to improve performance and report results.
From general guidelines and specifications, develop designs for equipment without critical performance requirements that are difficult to satisfy such as engine parts, research instruments, or special purpose circuitry. Analyze technical data to determine applicability to design problems; select from several possible design layouts; calculate design data; and prepare layouts, detailed specifications, parts lists, estimates, procedures, etc. May check and analyze drawings or equipment to determine adequacy of drawings and design. Plan or assist in planning tests to evaluate equipment performance. Determine test requirements, equipment modification, and test procedures. Conduct tests using all types of instruments. Analyze and evaluate test results and prepares reports on findings and recommendations.
Education: AS or AA degree from an accredited university in electronics or engineering technology.
Allowable Substitution: A high school diploma or equivalent and two (2) additional years of experience in automated Air Traffic Control (ATC) surveillance systems.
Experience: At least fourteen (14) years of practical experience in electronics or engineering technology. Eight (8) years of experience, to include installation of such equipment. Four (4) years of experience to include design, preparation and modification of engineering documents, and drawings. Eight (8) years of experience in automated Air Traffic Control (ATC) surveillance systems or area control systems.
Other: An Active Secret Security Clearance is required.
