What are the responsibilities and job description for the Buyer Principal position at Amentum?
HYBRID position. You can telework but you must live within driving distance of our Alliance, TX office. You may be asked to be on-site for certain meetings/projects.
Job Summary
The Buyer Principal is responsible for procurement of materials, components, supplies and/or services for the company in accordance with Procurement procedures, contract requirements and federal acquisition regulations.
Principal Accountabilities
- Establishes source of supply, negotiates price, delivery date, terms, and other necessary commitments based upon authorized requisition and complies with company policies and federal regulations.
- Provides guidance and information to requester that includes communication of procurement actions, or status and assist with special or complex requirements.
- Adheres to Procurement procedures to assure follow-up and administration of purchase order and agreement files are complete and accurate.
- Manage the procurement process from the development of the Request For Quote through negotiations, and execution of a Purchase Order, while documenting the procurement file in accordance with procedures.
- Monitor reports the performance to critical metrics such as; On Time Delivery, requisition backlog, and P2P.
- Provide input to overall procurement strategy and support the development of new capable suppliers to support future requirements.
- Monitor performance to procurement goals and objectives, identify opportunities for improvement and implement solutions.
- Assists in settling disputes with suppliers related to poor performance, late deliveries, invoicing issues, and non-compliance with Amentum terms and conditions.
- Provides input to Procurement strategy and pricing support for Business Development efforts.
- Conduct Procurement file Peer Reviews and provide mentorship to lower tiered Buyers
- May require site visits in support of establishment of new suppliers.
- Leads and assigns personnel for given projects or tasks.
- Provides technical guidance to less experienced team members
- Interfaces with Procurement leadership to provide status, input, and communicates with other departments.
- Responsible for compliance of procurement procedures in maintaining an approved Purchasing System.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge & Skills
- Ability to serve as a subject matter expert in government procurement activities.
- Knowledge of Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) required.
- Knowledge of various computer programs required (ex: Word, Excel, etc).
- Excellent communication, effective leadership and interpersonal skills.
- Strong negotiation and decision-making skills.
- Ability to plan, organize and handle multiple tasks independently.
Experience & Education
- Bachelor's degree in associated discipline. Two (2) years of experience in procurement or related field may be substituted for each year of the four (4) years of college
- Seven (7) years' progressively responsible experience in procurement. Minimum three years Government environment procurement experience required.
- One (1) year experience in a supervisory role is preferred.
Physical Requirements/Working Environment
CONUS: Generally remote position, could be required to be in person on occasions.
