What are the responsibilities and job description for the Category Manager position at Amentum?
Functions as a strategic Category Manager, within the Corporate Supply Chain Services organization, to drive an effective strategic sourcing program. Develop new or refresh existing supplier relationships, for major groups of spend, for master services agreements. The candidate for this position is expected to be an expert in the category field, understanding the market dynamics, sources of supply, influences on major suppliers, and the needs of internal company stakeholders at program and corporate levels. The position will drive identification of addressable spend targeting supplier and commodity optimization through strategic agreements, actively track supplier performance, and develop & report metrics for internal stakeholders, with the goal of assisting the company to operate leaner, faster, and more effectively for indirect & direct projects.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Identifies and manages the relationships with major suppliers and their internal stakeholders.
- Functions as a market expert on a portfolio of internal category and other corporate supply chain projects.
- Regularly prepare, present and distribute brief(s)/reports to provide strategic sourcing opportunities and other internal status updates on project categories.
- Ownership of data gathering, exploration and research into current industry trends, publishing the results to a wide list of company stakeholders (IT, Finance, HR, Transportation, Professional Services, Contingent/Temp Labor, Facilities & Construction, MRO etc.)
- Identification and review of inactive or non-competitive agreements for termination or closeout in coordination with senior management.
- Oversees/evaluates potential suppliers and ongoing performance. Performs periodic category reviews of utilization of established agreements.
- Agreements are executed and in compliance with policies and procedures, competition, and prime contract requirements where applicable.
- Ensures that all necessary data is entered and maintained in automated systems; provides feedback on data quality and system/ process improvement opportunities.
- Seeks to incorporate Small Business (SB) Diversity by identifying potential sources for compliance with the SB Program. Solicits new procurement sources with the assistance of management including small, disadvantaged, HUB zone, veteran-owned, woman-owned businesses, in addition to other Small Business subcategories recognized by the US Small Business Administration.
- Compiles and submits reports to customers and management.
- Performs all other position related duties as assigned or requested.
Knowledge and Skills
- Clear and concise communication skills, with experience presenting to senior executive levels
- Experienced with preparing detailed category briefings, with associated data analysis, that communicates value to the enterprise.
- Advanced experience with Microsoft Office, especially Excel, PowerPoint and Teams functionality
- Demonstrate cross-functional business partnership, project management and process improvement and negotiation
Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:
Hybrid/Remote: Preference for Washington, DC - Northern, VA or Forth Worth (Alliance), TX regions.
Engaging through Microsoft TEAMS video calls.
Typical office environment with no unusual hazards, occasional lifting to 20 pounds, constant sitting while using the computer terminal, constant use of sight abilities while reviewing documents, constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication, constant mental alertness, must possess planning/organizing skills, and must be able to work under deadlines.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree required, in management or supply chain management or engineering or compliance.
- Eight (8) to ten (10) years of experience of working within a category management, supply chain, procurement, subcontracts, or supplier quality role.
- Significant experience in conducting wide supplier competitions. Must include RFI, RFP, supplier selection, and supplier performance management. Must have experience performing these tasks that may be applicable under US Federal Government programs.
- Ability to conduct supply chain analysis and compliance and draw reasonable conclusions to make recommendations that withstand critical examination. Ability to communicate complex analysis to all levels of the organization.
